"ObamaCare Attacks My Freedom" = "I Hate That A Black Democrat Is President" |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 06:05 AM by RBInMaine
Let's cut through the bullshit. These TeaPublicans don't really know shit about what's in the healthcare law, don't know shit about the constitution, and all this TeaNut movement shit is really born out of two things: them being tooled by their corporate masters to attack the healthcare law, and these ignorant racist asshole neanderthals who can't stand that a black man was elected President. It is why they have tried to caricature him as a "Marxist" and as a "Muslim" and "Not From America" and on and on. They are a bunch of stupid, racist, poor loser cement-head whiners, and come Nov. '12, we're going to smash them hard at the polls. Obama wins 53-55% because we are going to be juiced up again, and the economy will be in a better place. Simple as that. Given what the RePukes are doing now, have done, and their TeaRacist shit, every progressive/democrat/moderate should be ready to crush these slimeballs at the polls.

When you look at statement like "he's not American" or he's part of some strange "Black Christianity" it's clear code to point out he is not part of the dominate racial structure. It's OK to pretend that it's about this that or the fifth but it's also OK to admit that it's about race. If you are on the left and you don't like Obama because he is centrist too bad you didn't pay attention to him during the election. BTW the center is closer to the right than any real progressive will want it to be but that's the fault of 60 years of corporate complacency by we the people.

5. Correct, the code words are very, very ovious ... |
|
When you hear the following ...
"He's a Kenyan", or "inner city thug", or "Chicago thug", or his plan to redistribute wealth is a form of "reparations", or "he hates the white culture", or that Michelle's master's thesis proves she's a racist ...
Or when ... the right calls the following people racists ... Barrack and Michelle Obama, Colin Powell, Sonya Sotomayer, Eric Holder, Van Jones ..
Or when O'Reilly talks about the threat to the White Christian power structure ...
Or when Limbaugh mocks African America kids who performed a song they wrote for black history month ...
Or when the dope on Fox and Friends (the one who isn't Steve Dochie) says that Sweden gets it right (race) because they don't intermix the races (that one was pretty amazing) ...
Or when you see signs the have Obama dressed as a witch doctor ...
Or when they jump up and down complaining that rapers can use the word N****R and they can't (this is a common line)
Or that white people can't get good jobs because of affirmative action ...
This is ALL part of a right wing effort to keep the racists in their base worked up into a frenzy. That is the entire point of it. They know that the right wing racists are there listening, and they know how to talk to them in a racial code.
And then, when challenged on it ... even with tons and tons of evidence ... their defense is turns to ....
"What, I never used the word N****R!! ... and even if I did, rapers use it all the time ... and sometimes (no evidence provided) I get called a "redneck", so see, I experience racism too!!"
You don't have to be African-American to see and hear this stuff and know what it means. You just need eyes, ears, and a brain.
This would have been longer, but I decided to not include the many things they say about immigrants, or the GOP plans to close the borders so no more brown people can get in. That's its own list.

|
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 09:42 AM by GoCubsGo
I guess he missed the part about Tiger Woods' ex-wife being Swedish.
I remember them going after Bill Clinton pretty badly, but I never saw him likened to Hitler, Stalin, Mao or Castro. Nor, did I ever hear anyone compare him or Hillary to monkeys, apes or gorillas. No silly cartoons of the White House with a watermelon patch in the front. No doctored photos of Bill and Hillary dressed as a pimp and a hooker. No prefacing everything with, "I will automatically be accused of being racist for saying something negative about Obama", even when nobody is accusing them of being racist.
These assclowns would have gone after any Democrat who was elected President with their nasty shit. But, anyone who says there is no added racism in their attacks on this President is being willfully blind to it.

I suspect that if Hillary had won, the attacks would be that she hates men, is too emotional due to menopause, and similar nonsense.

I think health care reform would be attacked whoever proposed it, because there is too much money at stake, and no shortage of people willing to act as the health insurance industry's useful idiots, as was shown during the Clinton years. I'm not denying that racism is a primary motivating factor for the Tea Party, but I still don't agree with the thread title.

this large voting block, help yourself. I choose to understand that this subset of voters are the Ross Perot voters, some of whom are former blue collar Dems who have suffered the death of the labor party with the corporate purchase of the Democratic party. People who believe the party has abandoned them on religious values, firearms freedoms, and most importantly the wholesale sale of their jobs through lip-lock support and in fact pushing of trade agreements (opposed by an overwhelming majority of labor) which stole their jobs. If you want to reduce this to racism, though inaccurate, again, help yourself...

28. I think a lot of it has to do with so many laws going against their way in the past 30 years |
|
Abortion, gay rights (with several states supporting marriage now), forced health care, more illegal immigration, removal of 10 Commandments/crosses (fill in the blank) on public property, etc. They see no win in sight, and nothing changed under Bush for their way, and see it moving more to the left under Obama.
While we agree with the past 30 years on these issues, imagine if we were on the other side? We may be angry too.

story for the real story, which is they hate Democrats, hate that they lost an election, and HATE that a black man is President. To most of them, a black man is "not one of us." It is the same shit that makes them hate latinos which they cloak with "anti-illegal immigration." It is why they attack us Dems with hyperbolic shit about us being "Communists" and on and on. I know some of the these types. I've been in the service with them and had them as co-workers. They are RACIST and use racist slurs laughingly behind closed doors all the time. It is rampant among these people. Most of these fools don't know a damn thing about the Boston Tea Party, or the Constitution, or the healthcare law. They listen to Rush, Beck, and love Palin. They think Fox News is gospel. It is these right wing slugs and the plain reality of their real motives that I'm talking about.

We make a grave mistake in equating opposition to HCR or Obama with racism. We ignore and demean any possible valid view from the opposition by calling it, in knee-jerk fashion, racist. We ignore reality, and do so at our peril.

I'm not saying that every single one of them is racist, but no one, absolutely no one, can argue that RACISM does not underly MUCH of their motive. I know some of them personally. I hear what they say. I have heard and do occasionally hear them using the N word. We all hear them saying in public that he is "Muslim" and "Marxist" and on and on and on. What they are really saying is "He's black. He's not one of us. He's different. He's less American. He's foreign. And again, he's BLACK. And that makes him an illegitimate president." If you deny this truth, denial is all it is.

Clinton by the RW that impeached him and Bush by almost everybody. It is over simplistic and disingenuous this mantra that the only reason that Obama is being opposed by some groups is because he's AA. Although, that's not to say that there aren't racist people out there too.
A more likely scenario is that the right thinks he's a socialist and the left thinks he's a corporatist.

he is "taking our freedom, and is a Marxist, and is a Muslim, and is not even a citizen, and is not a legitimate president..." The REAL motive here for MANY of them (maybe not all, but many) is that this is a black man, and they don't like it. Yes, they also don't like that he's center-progressive, and that he's a Democrat, etc. But add to that he's black and his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and then you have a VERY active Tea Party movement that was NOT there when Bush was running up huge deficits and crapping all over the constitution. Go figure.

Obama is "taking away freedom, bla bla bla" as a cover for their real motives. Please, try to understand the POINT. The whole OP is NOT about arguing the merits of the healthcare law. People are grossly misunderstanding the point of the OP. READ IT ALL. It is about the real motives behind the TeaParty activism. MANY of these people view Obama as an illegitimate president because he is black and has the name Barack Hussein Obama. Yes, they also hate that he's a Dem, but his skin color and name also have MUCH to do with it. They call him a "Muslim," and a Marxist," hold up signs of him caricatured as the Joker, as Hitler, and on and on. MUCH of their real motive against Obama is race/ethnicity-driven, and all this about "healthcare is taking my freedom away, ..." is a bunch of CRAP. And they and YOU know it.

Edited on Sat Feb-12-11 04:32 AM by girl_interrupted
I'd say that's a lot of hate, and not just words, or slurs, or photoshopped pictures. They were bound and determined to get him out of office. And Clinton, a white southerner, no less. He was called a draft dodger a "druggie" and yes, a "Commununist", because he once traveled to Russia. He and his wife were called "crooks"...have you forgotten all the investigations? Whitewater, TravelGate, etc. Hillary was called a lesbian because she wore pants suits, and a murderer who "killed" Vince Foster. There were cruel and crude remarks about Chelsea's looks. Insults to President Clinton's mother. And you want to talk about disgusting photoshopped photos? Try putting Hillary or Bill's name in Google images sometimes. Might wake you up.
Are there some racists who hate President Obama? Of course...Yet how odd is it, that there was No racism from the Right, when it came to Condi Rice, or Colin Powell. Why is that? Maybe that's a question you should ask yourself. Seems to me when right wingers agree with someones political philosphy, that never enters the picture.
Right wingers hate Democrats...period. No matter the color, the region they come from, or their honorable military service. They will find something "wrong" with them, somewhere, some how. Sad but true.

Democrat. NOTE please that I said "Black DEMOCRAT" is what they hate. But was there an anti-Clinton TeaParty? Did you have an anti-Bush TeaParty when he was running up huge deficits and squashing "freedom"??? Obama is BOTH a democrat, and is black, AND has the presidency. That office is like none other. Condi and Colin were NOT the PRESIDENT. The presidency is THE face of the nation. This is DIFFERENT. And now you have a degree of hatred and ORGANIZATION and messaging against this guy UNLIKE Clinton or any other PRESIDENT in our history. I'm not saying that every single one of these people is a racist and an ethnocentrist, but MANY are, plain and simple, and if you are telling me that "Obama is taking our freedom away." is not cover for "He's an illegitimate BLACK foreign Democrat who has no business being president." then you are in denial land.

other. It IS about the TeaPublicans using it (AND OTHER laws and policies) as a cover for their real anti-Obama motives, a large part of which is that MANY of them are RACIST and/or ETHNOCENTRIC and hate the fact that a black man (who is also a Democrat) and who has the name Barack Hussein Obama is president which is the highest office in our land and the literal "face" of our nation. YES, other Dems and Dem presidents have also been hated by the right wing and were attacked. Clinton is a good example. However, you did not have the kind of TeaPuke ORGANIZING and messaging and race/ethnicity attacks that Obama has had to deal with. They call him a "MUSLIM" and "Marxist" and say he is "NOT a real US Citizen" and "He is from Kenya" and on and on. NEVER did they attack Clinton's name. NEVER did they attack Clinton's religion. Never did they attack his nationality. I don't think they ever caricatured Clinton as Hitler and certainly not as the JOKER from Batman. This racist and ethnocentric behavior, to a HUGE degree, are their REAL motives. And it is undeniable. It is manifest and self-evident.

what you are talking about. I know too damn many people like that. I'm related to some of them, neighbor to some of them, etc. They use language and imagery that they'd never use to describe or depict a white person, no matter how much they hated him. They eagerly swallow the looniest conspiracy theories that involve the goofiest scenarios, because they want them to be true. If those crazy things were said about a white person they'd laugh and roll their eyes at the nutcase saying it. Yeah, I know what you mean. I think your example of it in the OP wasn't necessarily the best one you could have chosen, but the phenomenon you describe is real.
