Howard Dean - a call to ACTION for progressives!
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 07:40 AM by Krashkopf
Now is the time for Progressives, like us, to let the Democratic Leadership know that we are behind Howard Dean 110%!

Call Roland Burris, and let him know you will SUPPORT HIM if he follows through with his filibuster!

Call Harry Reid, and let him know that you DEMAND reconcilliation on a strong public option! (Relatively uncontroversial aspects of the bill, like being excluded from coverage if you have a pre-existing conditions, can and will, pass in the normal way).

And, call the White House and tell them to STOP KISSING JOE LIEBERMAN'S ASS!

5. Thank you!
I'm listening to both sides on this here and I'm totally confused at this point. Is the bill as it stands a net good thing or a net bad thing? If I knew for certain, I would know what to do, and how to phrase my phone call. I know I must come across as being an idiot, and that's probably accurate, but I just feel I don't know for certain if this is going to be a good thing or a bad thing. I wish I did. Thanks for the welcome. Been feeling a lot of despair in recent years over the direction our country is moving in and just at being surrounded by the military which seems to be very right-wing, religious fundamentalist-leaning.

pretend change. Someone should haul Lieberman off center stage.

7. Removing the Mandate is a win-win for everyone.
After the removal of the public option, the mandate is what is making this bill worse than nothing. Without the mandate, no one is forced into buying from a bunch of thieves, Americans are no longer locked into health care through insurance corporations and the Democratic party wont be blamed for every death dealing lousy con the health insurance corporations play.

They could put the mandate on a trigger. If Americans start abusing the health insurance corporations, and the corporations can prove 30% of their customers are waiting until the last minute and causing undue loss in profits, then the trigger would kick in. Or just add the mandate later if problems come up.

Remove the mandate, pass the legislation, and President Obama and the Democratic party can do a happy dance and claim they have health care reform.

Then through reconciliation expand Medicare for all.

It's a win-win for everyone. The health insurance corporations still get some new customers from people who use the subsidies. The Democratic party can pretend to have done health care reform. The Republicons can claim they stopped socialized medicine. And Americans aren't getting a worse system and are getting a few tidbits of improvement.

Then using reconciliation pass Medicare for all.

Removing the Mandate is a win-win for everyone.

subject Single Payer Vigil

mailed-by in.constantcontact.comsigned-by 1payer.ccsend.com

Invitation From Margaret Flowers MD, one of the Baucus 13,

We have reached an historic place. Tonight, for the first time in the history of the U.S., there will be single payer legislation introduced on the Senate Floor in the form of Senate Amendment 2837 put forth by Senators Sanders, Brown and Burris.

As we learned last Thursday following our rally and senate visits, our presence does make a difference. It was largely due to the actions last week and the many phone calls/emails that this amendment is coming to the floor.

Now we have another chance to be there and show our support for single payer. That is why I am asking you (even though I know this is a busy time) to join me tonight in the atrium of the Hart Senate Office building starting at 5:30 as I stand vigil during the vote. Wear your white coat if you have one. Bring a small sign. We will be in full view of many of the senate offices and our presence will make a difference (believe me that our absence will tell the senators that the support for single payer is not strong).

I hope to see you tonight!

If you can't make it, you can watch it at www.c-span.org . And if you havn't already, please call your senators and ask them to vote "yes" on SA 2837!

Best,
Margaret Flowers, M.D.

Release: Senate to Take up Single-Payer Health Plan

December 15, 2009

WASHINGTON, December 15 - The Senate on Wednesday will debate for the first time in American history a proposal to create a single-payer, Medicare-for-all health care system.

"In my view, the single-payer approach is the only way we will ever have a cost-effective, comprehensive health care system in this country," said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), whose amendment will come before the Senate.

The Sanders Amendment would provide health care and dental coverage for every American, save money, and improve health care results.

"One of the reasons our current health care system is so expensive, so wasteful, so bureaucratic, so inefficient is that it is heavily dominated by private health insurance companies whose only goal in life is to make as much money as they can," Sanders said.
