Look at Nancy Pelosi. Russ Feingold, Alan Grayson -- there are many many others that have always had spine. Take away the Blue dogs and you will see a lot of spine. (The blue dogs, I might add, are not a majority in the Democratic party)
Here are a few more: John Lewis, Luis Gutierrez, Rosa DeLauro, Elijah Cummings, Barney Frank, Sherrod Brown, Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Jim Moran (currently my representative!!) , Tammy Baldwin, Louise Slaughter ... the list can go on.
There are a lot of Dems with spine that don't get headlines, they don't get fanfare -- but they have spine. I love what Rachel said, and I agree, it was a home-run.
That said, I think we do ourselves a disservice to believe that the Dems do not have a spine. Assuming such falls right into the hands of the right wing meme that government is broken.
Look at what we are up against. We are not only fighting the ideology of the GOP, but we are fighting things like Citizens United, the US chamber of Commerce and the Koch Brothers.
This is a huge fight. It's a fight being fought from within, in a government that has -- over the past 30 years -- slowly been bent toward favoritism to corporations over people. Bending it back, without breaking it... imo... opinion will take time.
Elections matter.
There is more spine in DC among the democratic party than people believe. I just wonder if people are aware of what they are up against. This is a big hill to climb, let's not assume they are not attempting to take the hill because they don't have the fortitude to do so. The hill is that steep.
We are at such a point that -- in all reality -- we could see this broken permanently. I'm not talking about the party, I am talking about the country.
