Obama to Central High students: “What you are doing here is sending a message’’

By KATHLEEN McGRORY

President Obama got a rock-star greeting when he walked into the Miami Central High library Friday afternoon.

“What you guys are doing here is sending a message across the country that you can do anything you set out to accomplish,’’ the president told the screaming high schoolers.

<...>

Among the students who were selected to greet the president: teens who had made the honor roll, those with perfect attendance, and the school’s state championship winning football team.

“I never thought Obama would come to a school in Miami-Dade because people have said our school is bad,’’ said Toree Boyd, a junior who was sitting with his football teammates. “But we did go up a school grade and now we get to see Obama for the first time.’’

<...>

As Obama took the stage, the room erupted in applause and students cheered at the top of their lungs. “I'm ecstatic because this is a once in a lifetime experience,” senior Dwayne Brown said. “I'm a kid in high school who gets to see Obama. Who gets to say that?’’

7. Because the crowds in Madison would appreciate his presence.

I'd like to see him there, too. I'd like to see him standing with the little guy. He really needs a makeover in a bad way. Many, including myself, want to see him bust out those comfy shoes and walk beside them. (I know, just another campaign platitude.)

Did the labor leaders urge him to stay away? I didn't hear that.

Were you at any of the demonstrations across the country last weekend? Then you saw this sign and you know that this is a popular sentiment, so I don't need to tell you that.

12. Don't count on him going to Madison, he doesn't care
He's content to let Walker do the union busting for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if an order has quietly been issued to Rahm to round up any WI State Senator in Chicago and transport them back to the WI border.

11. How do you comeback to someone wanting the POTUS to be the POTUS?
You know, stand next to the little guy and show your support for his cause against those that would steal his life savings! You would THINK that would happen.

If he is there to support a 11% increase in educational spending, then I am all for it YET he had to go and piss off his base again with the apparent lovefest for the Repuke that stole the 2000 election.

Now why would he do that?

4. The reason why he was there was to drum up support for an 11% increase in education funding.
President Obama and Jeb Bush, the Republican former governor of Florida, joined in an awkward partnership on Friday, when Mr. Obama visited a high school here to push his plans to boost education funding... The Obama-Bush appearance was designed to underscore what Mr. Obama hopes will be a bipartisan effort on Capitol Hill to renew the education bill at a time when he is unlikely to get Republican cooperation on many other domestic initiatives... as Congress grapples with ways to cut the federal budget, Mr. Obama is also proposing to increase education spending by 11 percent – a proposal that is likely to run into significant opposition from Republicans.

“If we want more good news on the jobs front then we’ve got to make more investments in education,’’ Mr. Obama told students in a crowded gymnasium. He went on, “I want everybody to understand: Our job is not just to cut. Even as we find ways to cut spending what we can’t do is cut back on investments like education.’’

With Jeb as a willing prop, of course.
