I've worked for 30 years for the Democratic Party. I thought for sure we had elected a solid majority, guess I was wrong.
Maybe if I give just a little more?

16. I was sold also on a solid majority then I looked at FDR's congress and HE had an 80% majority dem.. |
|
...congress and had so much power the USSC had to step in on some of his decisions.
Obama could use an 80% majority congress like FDR had but it'll take work

31. Wasn't that accomplished in 2008? Big Democratic majorities in Congress and a Democratic president |
|
And what have been achieved on the major issues .... labor rights, civil liberties, ending the wars, universal health care, etc.,?

We have been betrayed, the whole nation has been let down.
I will not celebrate when the consequences are felt in 2010,
But it will serve them right.

the money from the insurance industry and the right wing media. It was a loosing battle from the start, didn't one of the Repugs say if we can beat Obama on health care it would be his Waterloo? So now it will be called "Obamacare" just like "Hillarycare", 2010 will be a blood bath.

Democrats supported HCR. The Republicans stick together and vote no on everything, all the insurance companies had to do was pick off Lieberman and a couple others and it was dead. The mistake Obama made if any was instead of telling Congress what he wanted, he let them butcher the damn thing. He did the same with the stimulus bill, by the time it got through Congress it was loaded down with bullshit earmarks like a study on why teenagers don't use condoms or a study why bears shit in woods or something.

22. It is just the Corporate Conservative group within the Democratic Party that is screwing the public |
|
I'm absolutely fine with the Traditional Democrats such as Kucinich, Weiner, Feingold, Sanders (Ind. but a traditional Dem none the less), etc. Primary out the DLC and the Blue Dogs by replacing them with traditional populist Dems....return the party to being an advocate of the people and I'll be happy.

24. I'm at 0 on that scale. It's a handful of bought-and-paid for Dems and one Independent |
|
in CT who are screwing this country over.
I feel devastated about this. I saw something at the presser yesterday that gives me a little hope, though.
I've now seen the tape a few times. And Baucus looked nervous, twitchy, even a little scared.
Wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Some call-outs? I guess, it really doesn't matter if there is no PO, no price controls, and nothing that addresses people who get rejected for a preexisting condition.
Basically, it looks like people who already have health insurance may get it a little cheaper. More discounts for many who don't need it, once again!

They're still doing some good things that I like. Rep. Polis from my home state passed an amendment in the House financial reform bill which will make it more difficult for lenders to manipulate students into taking ridiculously high-interest student loans. That's positive and something we wouldn't see under the Republicans. So I'm not giving up entirely. I maintain my usual line of thinking: I'm not going to vote for the Republicans because they aren't worth voting for. Not all Democrats are worth voting for, but many of them are. Remember, we do have a majority in the Senate for real HC reform and we passed a decent bill in the House. It's only the 60 vote requirement and a handful of Senators on the margin that are bringing us down. I'm not going to hold the entire party responsible for that, but it's still frustrating that our leadership can't or doesn't want to find a way to make Nelson and Lieberman get on board.

29. I don't feel screwed at all. I never expected an entire party to bow down |
|
to my personal wishes and dreams.
I think we've acccomplished a hell of a lot this year and I'm quite pleased with almost everything that's happened. I wish the HCR bill had a public option, but I also realize that alot of my fellow Dems across the country don't share that opinion. I don't think that means they "screwed" me. It simply means we see things differently and must compromise.
