Mitt's latest, pathetic makeover (LAT) Appears tieless, shops at Walmart
Just sad.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-romney-20110305,0,1486710.story

Defying his reputation as a 1950s square, the new, more casual Mitt Romney is popping up around the country as he readies a second run for president. He's going tieless on network TV, strolling NASCAR pits in Daytona and sporting skinny Gap jeans bought for him by his wife.

His latest campaign book, just out in paperback, opens with a regular-guy scene: wealthy Mitt in a Wal-Mart checkout line, buying gifts for his grandsons and comparing the surroundings to Target, another discount store he says he's familiar with.

:puke:

8. Agreed but I think Mitt is edging out Huckster
Huck's act is a bit better, Mitt is fooling N-0-B-O-D-Y. OMG the pic of him at NASCAR. ROFL Mitt. Give it up!

29. Is anyone looking at me?
No, Willard, you are wearing the credential and "gimme" shirt that says "useless VIP". If NASCAR fans find out how many people you put out of work, you'll be worth less than a cross-threaded lug nut....

2. Let him waste his time
Republicons will never support a Mormon for Prez. Even if he drives an old beat up truck (maybe Fred Thompson can let him borrow his).

6. As a Michigander, I remember his parents, George and Lenore.
George was a "liberal" Republican and passionate about civil rights. He went to Vietnam, said he was "brainwashed" by the generals there (he meant they attempted it, and he was right), and lost all chance at the 1968 GOP nomination. Lenore was one of the earliest and most passionate supporters of the ERA. They believed in something; Republicans now long gone from the scene.

Mitt believes in power. He's another W.

10. Wow that is really interesting I will have to look his dad up!
I just assumed he was an asshole too.

One fascinating thing I read somewhere that although GR was not a successful candidate his religion was not a major factor. At that time the GOP was not so influenced by the "agents of intolerance." Now I can't imagine even one Southern state going for him in the primary. I read somebody at FR say "I WON'T VOTE FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T BELIEVE IN THE TRINITY!' THAT'S a real sound way to decide a vote if ever I heard one, LOL.

21. Here's Wikipedia's take. A fascinating story of a remarkable life.
Not that I agreed with him on everything (far from it), but his passion for civil rights was unshakable. I have studied the 1961-62 Constitutional Convention in Michigan, and Romney was the force behind much of the civil rights push. He also turned against the war and was honest in that opposition; he also opposed Goldwater. A devout Mormon, he refused to go along with things like the church's racism. Anyway, he was 10 times the man his flip-flopping son is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney

26. Mitt Romney was a moderate Republican like his father...
Here in Utah, there were talks about him running as a Democrat for governor shortly after the Olympics, but he decided to run in Massachusetts. Romney joked that in Utah he was a Democrat and Massachusetts he was a Republican - suggesting he was very moderate compared to the extremes.

Flop flip. Flip flop.

That's not the kind of leadership a nation at war can afford.

Deval Patrick heaped praise on him just last week for Romneycare. Ouch.

18. And that's in between the times he gets his hair styled at The Ken Doll Salon.
It's not only his looks that are phony.

Staging a shopping photo-op at Wal-Mart and Target by pretending he "is familiar with" then is Saturday Night Live satire worthy!

22. Is there anything that sells in Walmart that's made in America?
Because I'm not sure why Romney would think that standing in a Walmart would make
him appear All-American! Perhaps he should remind himself that whatever is selling at Walmart is most likely made by folks in other lands who have taken the jobs
of those who are now forced to shop at Walmart cause they can't afford any alternative.
Of course, he wouldn't ever be bright enough to make the connection.....but it's there.

27. We have some old Carly ads here in CA that we can just splice Mitt into
They were quite effective. And true for both of them.

Romney said, "People in America want to know who can get 15 million people back to work."

Says the guy who made a fortune by buying out US companies and outsourcing jobs? BULLSHIT...

Edited on Sat Mar-05-11 06:59 PM by karynnj
who only had a truck because he needed to move his daughter's horse - because all our daughters, living in suburbia have horses.

In fairness, many politicians - in both parties play that game. Does anyone REALLY believe that Elizabeth Edwards really decorated her multimillion dollar house (Chapel Hill, Georgetown or the huge mansion they were building in 2007) at Target? They had been millionaires since their thirties.

Do you think that Michelle Obama usually bought $50 dresses at places you could find in the mall?

The problem is someone needs to get the media to define authenticity and caring about the lives of people by looking at the decisions they made in their lives and what they support. The odd think is that to our media what is "real" is the ability to fake a lifestyle, and persona that is far too two dimensional to be real.
