4. Oh, I don't think that's a problem for them.
They might not want to offer a candidate for 2012, seeing as every single one of their potential candidates is a guaranteed loser, but one commonality between them all is deep self-absorption.

The Republicans simply cannot stop terrible candidates like Palin and Gingrich from running. Those two in particular have already cultivated a network of conservative media allies and a mountain of corporate sponsors who will back them all the way.

But yes, they are all so deeply flawed that no combination of them will be able to avoid a landslide reelection and probably also major Democratic gains in the House.

15. Yeah, using the CIA to overthrow legitimate governments was just dandy.
MK-ULTRA was also a testament to Eisenhower's greatness.

17. FDR sent asian people to prison camps. He was still a great President.
There aren't many great Presidents without their list of sins, both personally and politically.

LBJ started Vietnam based on a lie. FDR went on a racist rampage against asian Americans and immigrants. Truman annhilated entire cities.

George Washington had teeth ripped from the mouths of his slaves so they could be transplanted to his own mouth.

All of the above were still great Presidents, just as Eisenhower was. All were also victims of the human condition at different points in their respective lives.

19. Eisenhower changed the CIA's purpose from 1953 onward. That doesn't make him "great".
When Truman created the CIA it was an agency dedicated to intelligence gathering only.

Eisenhower, by putting Allen Dulles and his cronies in charge, changed the CIA's purpose so that it became the enforcement arm of the US business community.

To this day, that has not changed one bit. Eisenhower played a very large role in making American politics much more corrupt from 1953 to the present day.

Please do some reading about the history of the CIA before you start fawning all over Eisenhower.

21. I'm well aware of the history you speak of. It changes nothing in regard to my claim.

You missed the entire point of my previous post, purposefully I can imagine. What Eisenhower did with the CIA does not cancel out, in any way, his great, positive achievements. Just as FDR's imprisonment of asian Americans did not detract from what he did for the country. Eisenhower was a great President. Most Presidential historians seem to agree on this as well. Now you can proceed to make post after endless post, beating the dead horse with his role in the mission of the CIA, but it won't change a damn thing. He is and will continue to be remembered as one of the good ones.

23. Got it. So brainwashing, coups and assassinations are no big deal to you.
Your comparison with FDR's internment camps would only be valid if there were still internment camps for Japanese-Americans today.

I didn't miss the point of anything - you had no real point to make. It's apples and oranges.

Edited on Sun Mar-06-11 04:51 PM by Badfish
To this day there is no democracy in Iran, and they now hate our guts , where before the coup they looked up to the USA.

Are those Asians still in the camps ?

Thats what I thought.

12. I think you are thinking of Carter.
Carter had no office when elected. Clinton was governor of Arkansas during the 92 campaign. He took time off of the campaign to come back to the state to supervise the execution of a mentally disabled man who saved part of his last meal for the next day.

He wasn't born mentally disabled. He committed murder, than tried to kill himself. He lived, but his brain never was the same.
