2. She's pretty awesome for what she is.
She's a media megastar and a black woman gazillionaire. She gives away cars at like 200 at a time. I don't watch her show and understand she promotes some medical quackery but she is a damn successful woman.

I get it. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but you can't take away from her success.

6. These days, I'm leaning more toward Diane Sawyer than any of those other choices.
As my most admired American female, not as a presidential candidate.

That being said, even I have to congratulate Secretary Clinton for being willing to continue to serve, despite everything that happened.

8. I'm bi-racial
Gotta admit - it's cool that three of those women look more like me than my mother.

And just who are these eejits that put Sarah Palin in the top ten with women like Hillary Clinton, Condi Rice, Oprah, Michelle, Diane Sawyer, etc. etc. Politics of these individuals aside? They are all extremely accomplished and well educated.

What the hell is the dipsy doodle bimbo doing in this crew of fierce competitors?

Hilary was active in politics before she met Bill. I believe she would still be quite prominent even had she not married him. Probably not exactly where she is now; but still worthy of a Who's Who reference. Michelle would also be a successful lawyer in her own rights. Maybe not a household name, but still quite successful.

Yeah, Oprah is manufactured. Manufactured by Oprah herself. She's worked hard to get where she is (and had some lucky breaks, as does anybody {male or female} who is highly successful in the entertainment industry).

edit to add: Both Presidents Obama and Clinton probably owe as much to their wives for their success as the women owe the men.

second edit to add: Sorry, I am a man reading this thread. I know I wasn't supposed to. But I did anyway. Please forgive me.

15. Hilllary was active in politics before she met Bill?
Not as a candidate even at the local area. She was quite young when she met Bill - in her early 20s. The only thing close to political that she did was to campaign for Goldwater and likely some Democrat in 1968. She was involved in student body politics, but that is not really the same - because of that she was a speaker at graduation - and that was a political speech.

It is very hard to ever guess a path not taken. I suspect that HRC's more introspective personality would make it highly unlikely that she would have successfully RUN for Senator, House or Governor on her own. By the time she did run for Senate, she had been part of Bill Clinton's many campaigns and had near 100% recognition. This meant that she did not have to define herself in the campaign - something that is not easy to do. Notice I put RUN in capitals - the reason for that is that it is clear that she was completely capable of doing a good job in any of those positions.

Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 12:11 PM by Beacool
I suggest that you read up on Hillary. SHE was the star when they met at Yale. She was the one who had appeared on the cover of LIFE magazine. Bill was at that point just a small town southern guy of little note. Hillary could have climbed the political ladder much faster if she hadn't dropped everything to go to AR to follow her heart. Those who think that Hillary rode Bill's coattails are wrong. He probably wouldn't have been president without her advice and discipline.

Hillary was an activist in her own right long before Clinton became President.

To imply that she somehow rode his coattails is sexist crap. I don't stand for that.
