2. I voted Carter

Good man with a clever primary strategy. Uncomfortable religion/self-virtue angle that suits a post-watergate (post/Iraq) environment.

Comes out of nowhere to win the nomination in a year when the Dem cannot lose.

Gets to Washington and finds that Congress isn't part of the fan-base. Develops an in-over-his-head vibe.

Public turns on him because he offered hope and nobody gets turned on harder than than a hope-monger. (We even based our predominant religion on that dynamic.)

4. None of the above.
He's created his own, unique combination of great expectations, followed by massive disappointment and failure to deliver.

None of the others managed to promise so much and deliver so little.

And Carter, whose one-term model Obama may end up emulating, at least stayed HONEST through it all.

Obama seems to be failing even that minimal test.

5. Kennedy-not in a complimentary way either.
Kennedy's first year as president, he let himself get pushed around quite a bit. I remember listening to a phone call where he was essentially pleading with Faubus RE: Integration.
