1. Been back and forth on that
It should be a state thing and let's see what shakes out.

Just nervous that is this stands it's only the beginning.

2. Change comes from the bottom up

Obama said that in the campaign.

The people lead, and I am confident (although admittedly impatient) that Obama will follow their lead when it is appropriate.

11. I guess it will be appropriate when unions are gone and the issue is irrelevant
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 09:07 PM by Armstead
A common Democratic centrist strategy....Close the barn door after the horse has left the barn.

Been doing it since the 80's. No reason to stop now i guess.

6. Bingo! As soon as he inserts himself it then becomes about him
He knows this..it has to come from the citizens...now if Walker takes his goons and starts hurting people then the government will step in.

7. Yesterday Fitzgerald tried to claim the White house
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 08:50 PM by savalez
is behind the whole thing. Read about that here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4764215&mesg_id=4764215

Of course the White House is not but I bet Walker wants them to be so that this would look like a fight between Walker and the President and today Walker would have appeared to have won.

I agree that Obama's presence is not appropriate. Aside from the above it would also diminish the grassroots aspect of the whole protest - and it is real, unlike the Tea Farty stuff.

Wisconsin citizens have a long road to haul but they can reverse this with successful Senate recalls, winning the Supreme Court election on April 5th, and then by ousting Walker next year.

They need to remember though that this is what you get when you quit and don't vote - or worse, vote RePug.

8. I am a proud Wisconsinite who says to Obama: support us, but stay away from here.
This is an out and out people's protest, people's movement from the bottom up. The people are the Leader and have been out in front of this for weeks now and have anonymously fighting the good fight. We are already on the move and we don't need anyone out in front of us because we are the front.

So President Obama, respectfully, support us but please stay away from Wisconsin now. This doesn't need to be about you and your presence here would only be a distraction now and we need to stay focussed on the job at hand.

21. Kick.. You are so right and that's probably why he's not there.
President Obama cares and would do more harm getting in the mix.

12. It's not "Wisconsin"'s fight... There's Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Florida
etc etc etc

This is a coordinated RW attack on American ideals and the very structure of the Republic. To say "it's Wisconsinites fight" is myopic.

to stand on and act all macho. D'oh...

do enough to pressure Obama.

18. Why would anyone be able to say that when ultimately this is a State issue
not federal? The people of Wisconsin have to deal with Walker unless this becomes a Federal issue. Obama has no authority and would be criticized for just using this as a photo op or for making things worse. DU would be the first to rip into him either way. Protests, recalls and lawsuits not Obama will get things done.

19. The only people that would criticize Obama are the ones who are
already criticizing the Wisconsin Senators who walked out.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I was no fan of Bill Clinton, but I guarantee that Bill Clinton would of supported the Wisconsin unions and he would of done it in a harsh tone to shame Republicans.

22. It is actually more powerful to sustain the movement
without him being involved. If President Obama were there and 100,000 people showed up, they would say, no wonder, it was because he was there. Pulling 100,000 people together without him there seems far more significant and is a far more real show of discontent.

If the President show up, the whole thing becomes a re-election campaign event. Without him, it is an actual protest.
