Wisconsin-14: Obama was very supportive and we're glad he didn't come here
From the Wisconsin-14 press conference yesterday:

Q: Obama disappointing you?

Erpenbach: No not at all, He was very supportive, a couple of different times, of public employees. He has a nation to sail through some rough waters right now. He was briefed 1-2 times a day, I don’t doubt him at all. Had he come here, it would have been more chaotic. I’m glad he didn’t come here.

Lena: I agree. It would have been about him, instead of the workers of WI. It would’ve been politicized, it would have been about the 2012 election. He has time to come stand with the WI workers, real soon.

2. That's enough to convince me
Obama coming to Wisconsin in his tennis shoes with a bullhorn in hand might be personally satisfying to us, but in the long-run not a good strategic move, especially if the key actors--the Wisconsin 14--say it's a bad idea.

27. Why? Because when you are playing this kind of politics
you don't tell the oposition all of your moves.

I am satisfied to know that he is working behind the scenes and effecting change then publicizing everything he does and then having to defend his every word or move.

IF we have learned nothing it's to try and get smarter when we are dealing with the Anti-American Republicans.

17. wow....
"It would have been about him, instead of the workers of WI." - I think Obama could have made it about the workers of WI, not himself.

"It would’ve been politicized" - It's not already?

"it would have been about the 2012 election." - It's not already?

"He has time to come stand with the WI workers, real soon." - How does the timing make any difference with respect to whether it will be perceived as being about him, politicized, about the 2012 election?

19. Because when he'll go there during the 2012 CAMPAIGN, it'll be a totally different situation
And i can't wait for his first stop in Madison. It will be one for the books.

If you disagree with the WI senators and their view of effective tactics, maybe you should take it up with them?

30. Hey, I was going to ask you, if either you or your husband were in a union.
There seemed to be more solidarity coming from the members of DU from the East on this forum than from the West these last few weeks.
That may just be my perception, though.

31. Little Rock-9: Eisenhower was very supportive and we're glad he didn't come here
From the Little Rock-9 Press Conference yesterday:

Q: Eisenhower disappointing you?

A: No, not at all, he was very supportive, a couple of different times, of desegregation. He has a nation to sail through some rough waters right now. He was briefed 1-2 times a day, I don't doubt him at all. Had the 101st Airborne come here, it would have been more chaotic. I'm glad they didn't come here.

I agree. It would have been about them, instead of the black students of Little Rock, AR. It would've been politicized, it would have been about the 1960 election. He has time to come stand with the black community, real soon.

32. Karl Rove desperately wanted Obama to show up
Sound bytes and footage from such a visit would have been twisted into "Obama addresses his union boss thugs", aided and abetted by "unruly Madison ultra-liberals", non-stop in countless negative ads decrying how "radical interests" have taken control of the "Democrat" party.
