Hillary Clinton: I will NOT serve as Secretary Of State in a second Obama term
I have heard her say this in the past this is very unfortunate and I know when the time comes Obama will try and twist her arm to stay http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/16/hillary-clinton-obama-cabinet_n_836635.html

but he still went out and campaigned for the boy king in 2004. Putting party over country doesn't sit well with me.

If there's a problem, they send Biden.

11. Our VP was offered this position before and he turned it down.
At least this is what he said. I doubt he would want it after being VP. And, I think someone should ask Clinton if she would want to be VP, my guess is no.

21. Despite media speculation, there's about zero chance of that happening
Obama and Biden actually work well together and that's the primary thing a President looks for in a VP in this day and age.

8. I think she will simply join in Big Dawg's efforts.
Personally, I'd love to see her run for the Presidency again in 2016, but she says she isn't going to do that.

Big Dawg is certainly still a force in politics, and in the world. I think she will probably combine her efforts and talents with his projects. The Clintons still carry a lot of clout.

It must be harder to press your point when you are viewed as only being in the position short term.

18. I doubt it. That would only be the case if Obama was not supporting her.
It isn't the policy or negotiations of the SoS. It is of the President's administration. And she could also just as easily suggest strongly to them if it is not done while she is SoS the next one may not be as nice.

35. Given that she represents the President, it is length of tenure that matters
Given that, slightly less than 2 years is a very long time - this is in fact the half way point. If she thought it a problem, she would not have publicly made the point that she will not be there 8 years. The first time, she actually was the one that brought it up.

Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 04:28 PM by karynnj
Clinton is far too dynamic and unable to give the stage to anyone - he had difficulty doing that for Hillary!

Not to mention, going just by appearance, his health might not be up to it - it could kill him.

25. SoSes don't serve two terms, so you can't read anything into this.
Whoever Obama appointed in 2008 was almost certain to quit in 2012. In the last 50 years, only one Secretary of State has served for more than four years - it's an extraordinarily draining post, probably more so than the presidency.

I very much doubt Obama will twist Clinton's arm to stay - I think he'll want a SoS who isn't absolutely exhausted by four years flying all over the world at the drop of a hat.

28. You are right--only 1 served more than four years. Most don't make it 2.
The job is extremely demanding--more so now that years ago. Now the travel requirements are higher. 30 years ago there was more long distance communication and less travel.

Far more travel than the president, always jet lagged. She'll be missed at State, she has handled that department adroitly and the employees like her very much (as opposed to Condi during her term there).

And she's said a couple times before that she didn't want to stay another four years if Obama is reelected.

She's had enough--I don't blame her.

She's done enough and been thru enough. If she wants to take a break or settle down with Bill for good, more power to her.

It's time for some young blood to get in there and clean up the mess left behind by her (DNA-gate) and Condi/Powell (every other mess).
