Rep Jan Schakowsky -- THIS is what Democrats can be
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 07:41 PM by Armstead
If you have about six minutes, here's a video of her proposal for a Fairness in Taxation Act, that would set new bracket at upper income levels.

More importantly listen to how she spells out WHY this needed, and she gives the details of how most Americans have gotten shafted due to the "deliberate" transfer of the majority of the nation's wealth upward.

She is not a dynamic orator. But her message Hits at the core of the dirty little secret of what has been happening in recent decades....The dirty little that too many Democrats seem intent on ignoring or downplaying.

That, IMO is what all Democrats should be saying and doing something about. She sure is and kudos to her.

On Edit -- That was dumb. I forgot to include the link...duh. Here it is

2. And she manages to do it w/o kicking the Prez in the gonads,
unlike some 'real' Dems here. Kudos indeed.

3. Babylon,
you've been classy about not doing what you just did. I've been critical while being a "real" Democrat. Real Democrats think for themselves, which sometimes leads to dissention; they expect democratic policies & programs to be nurtured & protected. It's nothing personal against Obama. For me, what's personal is how his actions/inactions affect my family's lives.

6. I was addressing a larger issue than you see, I guess. I am
tired of supposed Democrats hitting this president where it hurts for so many supposed issues. We can agree to disagree, but please don't question my motives or why I reacted the way I did. And by the way, maybe for you it's nothing personal, but for a vast amount of people on DU, it sounds like it is. And I'm sorry for your personal trials. Believe me when I say I have a multitude of my own, but I'm dealing with them, and still think this President is hands and shoulders above the one I could not wait to get rid of, and my life was pretty perfect during those years.

4. the man says my family is not worthy of rights, and he gets
'kicked'? What do you then call the pronouncement that only some are 'sanctified' and that we lack a 'spiritual element'? Slammed in the face with a nail ridden two by four? I mean, be fair.

5. But she is also doesnt go in lockstep with his "centrist" stance
First of all, did the word Obama appear anywhere in my OP?

Second, she has gone up against Obama on some things, like Afghanistan and the drug deal he cut with Big Pharma.

But much more important, over the years -- long before Obama came on the scene -- she has been among the Democrast who have challenged the DLC Centrist Democratic Corporate Agendas, standing up for working people, progressive principles and economic democracy -- often going against the conventional wisdom of the bi-partisan elites.

That's what matters.
