Rick Santorum: Obama Going To "Reno" To Gamble On NCAA TournamentSpeaking to conservative radio host Steve Malzberg, possible presidential candidate Rick Santorum quipped that the president could indulge in some gambling during his planned trip to Reno. The comment came while the two were criticizing president Obama for taking an interest in the NCAA tournament and filling out a bracket.
Only one problem with Santorum's joke: the president isn't going to Reno until next month. He is going to Rio — as in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is 6550 miles away from Reno on an entirely different continent. And the president isn't going to South America for vacation or to bet on basketball, but to push U.S. economic interests and advance regional cooperation.
To be fair, it's not entirely Santorum's fault. Malzberg is the one who fed him the wrong information about the trip to Reno, and being the uncritical politician that he is, Santorum ran with it.
MALZBERG: By the way, you'll— we're talkin' to Rick Santorum on the Steve Malzberg show— you'll be glad to know the president's going to Reno this weekend, with his family. He has to make a big speech, you know, so they're gonna do sightseeing and, you know—
SANTORUM: They can bet on the games there. I mean, if he can fill out the bracket, he can bet on the game. That's good.
MALZBERG: Very good. It's legal there, right?
SANTORUM: Yeah, sure, why not.
MALZBERG: Very, very interesting. I never thought of that. I'm glad you brought that up.
SANTORUM: Yeah, maybe that's why he's there. There's lots of games. This is the first round, so you've got lots of games to bet on.http://politicalcorrection.org/blog/201103180008 Once again to the lurking Republicans, to sum up, Barack Obama is going here....
not here....
