Whoopi comes close to calling Trump a racist on THE VIEW after his birtherism comments
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 12:05 PM by wndycty
EDITED AND UPDATED: to reflect my post at: http://blog.windycitywatch.com/2011/03/whoopi-goldberg-stops-short-of-calling.html

Whoopi Goldberg stops short of calling Donald Trump a racist, she shouldn't have stopped

This morning on THE VIEW, Whoopi Goldberg came close to calling birthers and Donald Trump in particular racist. In a discussion with Trump about President Obama's birth certificate she finally asked him was it about race?

Goldberg: Donald, I think that’s the biggest pile of dog mess I’ve heard in ages! It’s not because he’s black, is it?

Trump: It has nothing to do with him being black.

Goldberg: Because I’ve never heard a white president being asked to show his birth certificate. That’s B.S.

It is long past time for folks to start calling birtherism what it is, racism, and birthers, including Trump, what they are, racist.

I know that is harsh, but the attempt to "other" President Obama by alleging he wasn't born here is nothing but dog whistle racism intended to imply that he is different and "not one of us."

Instead of the burden of proof being Obama to present a birth certificate, WHICH HE HAS DONE, the burden of proof should be on birthers to prove they are not racist.

1. Amen, amen!
Whoever the Republican nominee is - let's demand that birth certificate and not be satisfied with a mere certified short form.

And they even demand Obama release school records. Let the 2012 Republican candidate be required to do the same.

8. I've always found Trump to be pretty creepy
The way he looks, the way he talks... Just creepy. His extravagant life is so outrageous and he peacocks around like it's some great virtue.

He is only human. The same as the rest of us, doing the best he can, using strategies he learned from his father to find happiness. And having to keep hoarding more riches because they will never bring him what he seeks.

I actually have utmost compassion for the uber riche because it disconnects them from all that is real and important. The most sad thing of all is, who would you trust?

15. I would trust the person who has...
...a great awareness of the country, the world and our relationship to it. Someone who knows what it is like to go without and who does not blame the poor for being poor. Someone with a great empathy for others and solid sense of justice. Finally, someone with the personal fortitude to stand on principle and the shrewdness and experience necessary to promote those principles successfully.

In other words, no one we will ever get.

I have watched the hosts and guest singing out a string of racial quotes,statements,etc..and then go on show after show and right articles about how outraged they are that they are being called racists then,to help it out they go get a person of the race that they are offending on a daily basis to claim that its not racist...

They are KooooKoooooo  and racist absolutely, part of the dis ease.

17. "Because I’ve never heard a white president being asked to show his birth certificate. That’s B.S."
Exactly! I haven't seen BUSH'S birth certificate. And Trump said EVERY president shows his birth certificate. Really? When? Is there a ceremony or something that I've missed all these years? When Whoopi asked him if he's seen BUSH'S b.c., he just said, "Bush is a citizen." That's not an exact quote, but almost. Whoopi should've said, "Why do you assume that-because he's WHITE?"

but REALLY???? "Trump said EVERY president shows his birth certificate." ....WOW!!!

Mr. Trump, I have been politically aware since 1960. I have never even heard a word about any candidate showing his birth certificate, or even being asked to before this election. Oh, and by the way, Mr. Trump - PRESIDENT OBAMA'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS ON THE INTERNET - LOOK IT UP! Or get one of your minions to do it for you.

44. His exact quote was,
"Everybody does" when Whoopi said to him something like, "Did BUSH have to show his birth certificate?" Then he said he KNOWS that BUSH is a citizen. He didn't say HOW he knew that. I guess because he's white and wears cowboy boots? And then he claimed again (falsely) that nobody knew Obama from 1st grae or kindergarten. When the ladies said there are PICTURES of him in class at that age, he asked to see them. :eyes:

29. I thought I read McCain wasn't even REALLY born in the Zone.
IIRC, it was a hospital in Colon. Furthermore, the Zone wasn't even sovereign territory at the time - by treaty. So it wouldn't really count anyway.

Yes I'm a McCain birther. LOL.

There was a pretty good argument McCain really wasn't eligible.

Sometimes there is a wee bit of special hell for being born in the colonies. Gone, the last vestiges of (physical) Imperial America. A very special place in time for those from there.

And what pisses me off more is that in all the stories I have read of this account and his non-sense a few weeks ago, I don't see any refutation of his claims. Trump said today....

"If you go back to my first grade, my kindergarten, people remember me. Nobody from those early years remembers him," Trump said. "If you're going to be president of the United States, it says very profoundly you have to be born in this country."

A quick google search of Obama Kindergarten gave me this interview of his kindergarten teachers WITH PICTURES OF HIM IN KINDERGARTEN

Edit to add me banging my head. Ugh! :banghead:

26. Trump went way beyond saying Obama wasn't born here -
- he was saying no one remembers Obama as a kid and there's something he wants hidden on the birth certificate. So I guess he is insinuating that not only was Obama not born here, he never lived here either. WTF.

I am glad Whoopi said what she did. I don't know how she sat there through it all especially with that blonde nutcase smirking on the other end of the sofa. Ugh.

32. This birther stuff is nonsense
But so is the claim that anyone who believes it is nonsense too. The people that started birtherism may have had racist motivations. Many people that believe conspiracies are just conspiracy believing fools, like 9/11 truthers. I think the general public rejects blanket claims of racism and we should avoid them.

To answer Whoopi's question, the reason no white president has been asked to show his birth certificate is because there hasn't been any question of different/multiple documents (and names of them) with any past president and no president, since the founding days, has had the worldly childhood that President Obama had. Both bring confusion and open things up for distortion and manipulation by those that crafted the nonsense.

She lost all cred with me when she defended Roman Polanski as not having committed 'Rape-rape'

Yes - the birth thing is stupid on its face. However, let's face it - we have never had a President with a foreign born father or one that lived significant amounts of his life outside the US.

The right accused Clinton of rape, financial graft and attempted to impeach him for a blowjob. This is not the 1st time these assholes have used specious reasoning to attack our President. They use whatever they can.

43. Dumb.
Birthers are idiots, but they're not idiots based upon race. They're idiots based upon denial.

Trying to hang racism onto birtherism just de-legitimizes actual racism. There actually are people out there who think that there shouldn't be a guy with dark skin and curly hair in the White House because the guy has dark skin and curly hair, and is therefore some sort of inferior being. Those people are racists. The birther people are just in denial because they lost. Yes, there is some crossover between the two, but it's not a terribly significant amount.

It is very, very stupid to try to claim that because someone has some stupid case of denial about Obama having been born in Hawaii, they must think that way just because it's a Black guy.
