Obama Clears Out The Bushes And Restores America’s Global Popularity
March 25, 2011
By Jason Easley

Barack Obama ran for president in 2008 based in part on the promise that he would restore America’s standing in the world, and a new Gallup poll released today shows that he has done just that. Respondents in 100 countries were surveying and the United States was the most popular world power at 47%. This is a roughly 14% increase in America’s global standing since the Bush administration.

Gallup found that Obama has managed to turn the US from the power that trailed Japan, Germany, France, Russia, and even China from 2007-2008 into the most popular of the world’s global powers.
US leadership is now approved of by 47% of the world and only 25% disapprove. Germany is second with a 40%/17% approval to disapproval ratio. France was third with a 39% approval rating followed by Japan (37%), the UK (35%), China (31%), and Russia (27%).

snip...

In the eyes of the world the image of America as a cowboy nation with no respect for the concept of freedom and the very values that is was founded on is slipping by the wayside. Obama has rebuilt our nation’s global standing, and helped to potentially increase our future security.

To borrow a phrase from George W. Bush, “Mission Accomplished.” Heck of a job, President Obama.

1. Howdy Doody could have beaten Bush's rating...
By and large, our activities around the world haven't changed that much. Except now we have three wars going.

3. But they're good wars now because Obama is President
Obama won the Nobel peace prize.

He might win another with an assault on Iran.

4. Our President is different; he's not trying to start anythiing, for
starters, and there's been a fair bit of diplomacy with this prez compared to the last, who only succeeded in insulting and annoying practically everyone.

9. Tell that to the folks who are cheering our defense of them, or
should we have let a massacre happen? Would that have satisfied you?

So someone posts something positive for our country, and all you can do is gripe?

13. No, you are right. Much better if the US kills people there than to let the locals do it.

12. So if the people there were being killed
You would not be yelling about Obama doing nothing to "side with the Libyan people?"

14. I'm against foreign military intervention unless the country is a direct threat to the US
I'm for diplomacy in the other cases and I never saw much diplomacy between he US administration and Libyan officials.

People are being killed all over the world in civil wars. It's should not be the job of the United States to be global cop.

11. Only President Obama could have accomplished this in so short a time.

His promise to be a globally transformative presidency has come true in only two years, despite all the hateful vitriol and bald-faced lies that are spread about him by his domestic political enemies.

15. K&R
Appreciate it.
I live overseas (Korea) and have noticed it here in Korea and in Japan.
I also think it makes the Chinese nervous. I get Chinese TV out of Hong Kong and English CCTV and they have stepped up their criticisms of Obama and the US.
I think it's an attempt to blunt this rise.

20. The biggest reason I voted for Obama..
was to see him improve U.S. foreign policy, and relationships globally. As far as I am concerned, he has accomplished that to my satisfaction in my very honest opinion. Now, what lies ahead is to continue the fixing of our country at home, but I think Obama is capable of tackling such a large task given his pragmatic approach. Indeed, this pragmatic approach may not be what many hoped for, as they may have been looking for an idealist, but the nations of the world respect Obama's dynamic, and nuanced take on every different situation.
