Prediction: a century from now historians will be talking about this Speech
As being seminal in the way America projects military and diplomatic power. They will be calling it the Obama Doctrine.

They will note that this speech also set the stage for big reductions in what the American will be asked to shoulder in blood and treasure in future conflicts. This was not about Libya or about the Middle East It was a transformational moment regarding America's global role for the next several generations.

1. He better hope that they don't call this the Obama doctrine. It's poorly
thought out with no forward thinking plan in place.

If you think we are going to stop shouldering the load, then you're in for a big surprise this summer when he announces a 40,000 troop ramp up for Afghanistan.

5. Hmm... could be.
Actually, I think they'll be looking at it as part of the greater trend. We went through this before and with similar results. This puts a finer point on it, but it's not the crux.

9. A century from now there may not be anyone left because of his speech
More pro-war nonsense, and the sheeple bought it hook, line, and sinker.

10. What? How is US intervention in Libya dramatically different from US invervention in the Balkans?
Or other places?

You act like US intervention for "humanitarian purposes" is some new concept espoused in the new "Obama Doctrine"

Also, how are Americans being asked to shoulder less in future conflicts? Because we have NATO and other allies? Newsflash: NATO was involved in the Balkans and Afghanistan. America still ended up being the main force behind NATO because of our military capabilities.

Essentially your posts amounts to the claim that this new military adventure in Libya is some dramatically new concept. Far from it. The US has been playing the role of "Global Cop" for decades.
