JOB GROWTH CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN
Continuing the historical pattern of Democratic administrations halting economic downturns, the Obama administration continues to produce positive job growth results.

The ADP National Employment Report said private payrolls rose by 201,000 in March, slightly below estimates. Yet the average monthly increase the past four months is 211,000, up from gains of 74,000 from August to September.

"It seems clear to me hiring is picking up, and we're going to add more jobs in 2011” than in 2010, says Wells Fargo economist Mark Vitner.

Smaller companies appear to be doing the heavy lifting. March employment rose by 102,000 at small firms, 82,000 at mid size businesses and 17,000 at large ones -clip-

Team Obama continues to save this country from the Great Depression.

Thanks for the great graphs and the timely facts which refute the lies and bullshit that are constantly pushed by Pres. Obama's opponents.

2. Unfortunately, it may not last too long with the Republicans hellbent on pandering to their base.
They will try to take credit and actively seek to sabotage any gains.

4. Oh, ferchrissakes! Since when is 15 straight years of no net job growth "good news"?
That's what these numbers show--from 2000 to 2015--the porjection is not a single net job gained. Three recessions and three recoveries during that period--WITH NO NET JOBS!!

People who refuse to recognize the ongoing disaster that our economy don't seem to mind the prospect of complete social disintegration down the road. Of course it's better to be on the up side of a business cycle than on its down side, but will you PLESE stop the BULLSHIT about how this will do something about ever increasing homelessness, forclosures and poverty, all the while having real incomes continue to shrink while living costs skyrocket.

Or maybe you think that the 2/3 of the population with real jobs can start hunting the other third for sport?

8. Dear Glass Half Empty
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 07:11 AM by mikekohr
President Obama has halted the staggering monthly job loss of over 800,000, reversed it and produced 15 straight months of private sector job growth. Including the government sector, which is shedding jobs as a result of the plummetting revnues to federal, state and local governments, the Obama administrations policies are still producing positive monthly job creation at an ever increasing level. Those the first steps to replacing the over 8 million jobs lost during the George W. Bush gifted Great Recession.

13. That graph illustrates a permanent ongoing disaster of major proportions
If you don't get it, just add all the areas under the graph. Then add all the areas above the graph. Contrast and compare. At the current rate of job addition, it will be 20 years or more before we recover the losses. Business as usual will not work! I don't expect Obama to solve this all by himself, but I expect him to use his bully pulpit to point out the scope of the disaster and how Repukes and banksters have combined to make his attempts at dealing with the problem far less effective than they might have been.

20. The "disaster of major proportions" was the Bush administration that dug the hole
The bigger the hole the longer and more painful the climb back. This was the 2nd greatest downturn in US history. Yes it will take time to recover all those 8 million lost jobs. But look how long it took the most accomplished president in US history, FDR, to bring employment back to pre-downturn levels:

?

The government always underestimates the actual unemployment numbers as a downturn occurs but also underestimates the recovery rate during the climb back. That is why monthly job creation numbers have been continually revised upwards over the last few months. Have faith my friend.

22. What does private sector job growth have to do with it? It's overall jobs. Private sector growth

is being easily negated by public sector job loss and new people entering the work force. You can't look at a single slice of the pie and says it looks good when the rest of the pie is rotting.

Let's, also, not forget that most of the new jobs being created are McJobs that don't pay enough to support a single person, much less a family of three.

32. That's still only private sector jobs and doesn't take into account all the
public sector jobs that have been loss. Not to mention that 150,000 - 200,000 jobs need to be created each month just to keep up with new people entering the work force.

I notice that you also neglect to mention the type of jobs being created. Even the people who are finding jobs aren't making enough to support a family.

How many of those jobs are actually full time jobs (36 hours a week minimum) that are paying the national average of 55k per year?

19. Yup, and it depends on which report you read.
One report says unemployment has gone up, but other reports say jobs have been created. If you have a job, the outlook is great. But, if you are here out in the trenches, and seeing the real truth, well, it's quite a different story.

jobs are disappearing at record rates. Not to mention the foreclosure problem that has yet to be addressed.

30. That is another part of the puzzle that needs to be addressed
Tying minimum wage to inflation, addressing organizing rights, resetting the income tax codes. All work undone and sorely needed. But lets celebrate the addition of 216,000 jobs last month and over 500,000 since the first of the year.

31. Thank you for acknowledging it.
What is frightening is the level to which it is brushed aside and papered over in our political discourse. I was told twice on DU yesterday by DEMOCRATS that President Obama has "handled" the economy, with the not-so-subtle implication to just relax and celebrate. The raw truth is that people are not able to sustain themselves or their families in the new reality, and I don't see serious acknowledgment of that by anyone in power.

Here is another example, yet Social Security remains on the bargaining table:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x786264

An increase in jobs is a good thing, but they need to be jobs with wages and benefits that will lift people back into the middle class. I worry that people are being groomed to accept a new normal that is unacceptable and should enrage all of us. The structural problems that are enriching the already obscenely rich and pushing formerly middle-class people into poverty remain in place, and nobody in power on the right OR the left seems willing to speak honestly about that.
