The fact remains that the Dow Jones is far higher now than it was during BushII or Clinton. Can you dispute that?

12. You know that does not count... |
|
Seriously, you are not allowed to present common sense facts here on DU if they support the good job President Obama has done as America's "Janitor in Chief"...Folks around here act like Obama came into office with a surplus, a "TRUE" Super Majority, a thriving economy & a BIG MAGIC WAND that would allow him to do anything he pleased!

14. So is my 14 year old neice, who can no longer be denied health care |
|
because when she was 2, she was diagnosed with a very serious form of cancer.
FYI ... neither she, nor her parents, are wealthy.

16. You see her parents on that chart. And with them, her. |
|
Because if she relapsed, their relatively small, but very crucial 401k, would potentially VANISH.
They are not wealthy. Hardly.
The HCR elements, the recovery of their "small" 401k ... those, and a number of other improvements under Obama, have stabilized their financial lives.
You seem to be suggesting that improvements in HCR and improvements in the DOW are unrelated. The reality is that improvements in both are good for many millions of Americans. Like for my sister and her family.

18. Very little of the Dow is owned by the non-wealthy |
|
And 401ks do not need to be invested in stocks. Mine have been in money market funds for the past few years, since Lehman Brothers collapsed. I don't think the markets are safe until Glass-Steagall or something similar is back in effect.
It is certainly true that HCR and improvements in the Dow are good for millions of Americans, although:
1. we still pay twice as much for health insurance as other countries, which makes us uncompetitive and kills jobs 2. the Dow has gone up because corporate profits have soared, but that's happened at the expense of jobs
So now we are at a 20% or so true unemployment rate, and it hasn't budged for years.
