CT State Rep. threatened by man who made Giffords reference

A city man faces a second-degree harassment charge after he allegedly threatened state Rep. Linda Gentile, D-Ansonia, making reference to the recent shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, police said.

Police Lt. Andrew Cota said John Matika, 67, of 40 Edgehill Ave., made several phone calls to Gentile’s office March 24 and March 25, commenting on gun legislation.

During the calls, Matika made reference to the Arizona shooting, and that, if the gun bill passes, the same thing will happen here, police alleged.

On Thursday, police stopped Matika in his car on Jackson Street and took him into custody on a warrant. Matika was turned over to the Capitol Police Department and was arrested Thursday.
