You see -- more private sector hiring! Lower unemployment numbers to crow about! More proof that "free trade" treaties and plutocrat bailouts really work!

McDonald's will hold hiring day April 19 to fill 50,000 jobs

The company says it is making a concerted effort to add staff as its business improves and more of its restaurants stay open 24 hours a day.

The company’s hiring goal translates to between three and four new hires per restaurant.

McDonald’s says turnover slowed because of the weak economy. The company sees an opportunity to attract employees in a tough job market.

McDonald’s held a similar event in its Western region last year. More than 60,000 people applied for the 13,000 jobs.

environment. Good that they are opening up more positions. I am sure that many will appreciate a job opening up even if it is flipping burgers. Beats staying home feeling depressed, even if it doesn't pay much.

5. So? Why the cynical bullshit? Economic health starts at the bottom up, does it not?
If McDonald's feels it needs to increase its workforce by 50,000 new employees, then I'd say that might be a good sign that prospects are improving in general. But I guess its more fun to be cynical for the sake of being cynical and shoot down any kind of positive news as much as possible.

6. Good for them.
Maybe it's not a dream job, but it beats being unemployed. And, it's easier to find a better job if you already have a job.

8. Free trade has been a complete failure.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 02:40 PM by Cali_Democrat
If hamburger flipper jobs could be outsourced, they would have been by now. I'm sure the corporations will attempt to outsource them to India and develop a new type of preservative/packaging that will preserve the food in flight over long distances. That's how sick these bastards are.

The backers of free trade said wages would increase for US workers because we would specialize in jobs that are more efficient from our end. The only thing that's happened is a race to the bottom where higher paying jobs in the US are outsourced to 3rd world countries paying slave labor wages. Meanwhile we're stuck with hamburger flipper service sector jobs.

Free trade has been a complete and utter failure.
