Kyl Walks Back Planned Parenthood Claim: It ‘Was Not Intended To Be A Factual Statement’

As ThinkProgress reported earlier today, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) defended Republicans’ willingness to shut down the government over funding for Planned Parenthood by falsely claiming that abortion is “well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.” In reality, just three percent of its work is related to abortion. This afternoon, CNN brought on Planned Parenthood’s Judy Tabar to discuss his comment. During the interview, CNN anchor Don Lemon relayed a statement from Kyl’s office walking back the comment, claiming the statement was not meant to be “factual”:

LEMON: We did call his office trying to ask what he was talking about there. And I just want to give it you verbatim here. It says, ‘his remark was not intended to be a factual statement, but rather to illustrate that Planned Parenthood, a organization that receives millions of dollars in taxpayer funding, does subsidize abortions.’

Republicans are now admitting that they intentionally lie?

5. That's because he got called on it as a lie
If no one would have confronted him he would not be trying to walk it back. Remember they push the lines to see how far they can go, if they get slapped back then they say their comments were taken out of context...blah..blah..blah..

9. Yes, and Judy Tabar
looked straight into the camera and smacked down the RW lie before the anchor read Kyl's statement.

6. Is anything Senator Kyl says intended to be a factual statement?
No need to respond to that; we already know the answer.

7. This reminds me of what Kerry said on in the Senate - Just because you say it, doesn’t make it true.
This was during the START debates, where the Republicans kept arguing already debunked points.

I would say to my friend from Kentucky: Just because you say it, doesn’t make it true. Our friends on the other side of the aisle have a habit of repeating things that have been completely refuted by every fact there is. … The facts are that this treaty is not being rushed.

The political video forum has the video -

It is stunning that Kyl's office has no problem that he completely lied - on the floor of the Senate.

10. Every time he speaks some one should ask him "was that a factual statement ...
or is this like that time when you mislead people about planned parenthood?"

Every time he opens his mouth, ask him to clarify his statements as to whether they are factual.
