2. It's kind of not fair, because rightwing extremism and power hasn't been a static thing |
|
It's grown exponentially over time.
Carter looks better, but only because he wasn't dealing with nearly the same thing.
This is not to say that both Clinton and Obama have done well in that respect. They've been awful.

I was aware that the point could be made; I voted for Carter anyway.
(Actually I voted for all three of them.)

Apples vs. oranges vs. strawberries!
No Fox or RW loonies vs. Signing the Telecommunications act that birthed Fox vs. Fox & Limbaugh in Full Bloom
This forced comparison is so shady.

14. Thank you. Your point is on target.....why is it often ignored? |
|
The Republicans like nothing more than to group various political situations as "the same".....especially when they are not.
Eight years of the Bush administration brought us the expense of two unneccessary wars, and tax CUTS to the richest Americans....and the Republicans said NOTHING. Now, for the last two years, Obama has spent much of his time cleaning up after the "elephant" (so our country can move forward), and the hypocritical Republicans beat down his efforts with any contrived lie they can manufacture.
We all need to stand up to them. It is a parent (Dems) vs.child (Reps) scenario........unfortunately, at times, the child seems to be winning.

8 years = Losing the Health Care Battle + signing DADT/DOMA + Repealing Glass-Steagall + signing telecommunications act + ignoring Rwanda + Dot Com Boom jobs but that later went bust + NAFTA + Zipper problem that brought on impeachment proceedings
vs.
2.4 years = Winning the Health Care Battle (even if we didn't get everything) + Signing DADT repeal + Signing in Financial Regulations bill (including a Financial Protection Agency) + Dealing w/t an entire ME Upheaval during the entire time that both right wing and left wing media have been on the assault against him.
as for Carter, I'm sure he accomplished a lot by his first 2.4 years in office.....problem is he didn't get re-elected, so I guess even Democrats didn't think much of whatever it was that he did at the time......although I'm sure some can refresh us on this....
ditto LBJ, who ended up choosing not to run for 2nd term based on his reading of the landscape of how little Democrats supported him. Certainly, it helped LBJ to have just replaced a deeply loved dead President, but folks know this, I'm sure.
Seems like those being called courageous against the RW ended up leaving the Presidency to a Republican. How Neato! Let's just do that again some more.

|
leave us with a Republican President.
Who was President after LBJ, after his serving only one term? Who was President after Carter, after his serving only one term? Clinton served his two terms, and was impeached, and then who stole the 2000 Election?
If this is how courage is repaid....where the American people are made to suffer a Nixon, a Reagan and a Bush.....fuck that shit.

and fighting RW bigots to repeal DADT, and fighting RW Corporate interests to get Financial Regulations passed, than you don't know what fighting is.
Plus he had to fight the RW 24/7 hate machine and the corporate media, and the Firedoglake Professional Left wing whiners, all at the same time.

32. Other than Charlie Sheen...I think winning means the middle class buoys to the top |
|
We aren't winning. Our children's ranking is declining.
Clinton's third way was demoralizing.
Obama taking on slogans and giving away the store is depressing.
I think the best democratic movement I've seen in the last couple of years is what the protesters in Wisconsin and Ohio have done. For people in Michigan to get stirred up and head to the state house is eye opening. The midwest is not normally known as the bulwark against conspicuous conservatism, but there we are.
