4. What a depressing display from Landrieu. She is a cool customer and basically talked over
Dean's response. If she is so right and so pure she should have let him have his say.

I am so depressed at the mess of our party.

8. Dean talked over HER. He pretty much lost the "argument" when Matthews
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 07:33 PM by jenmito
said right off the bat that he (Dean) wants to kill the bill and that would make the Repubs. happy since they feel the same way. Dean had to backtrack and say he didn't want to kill it, because it had some good things in it, but wanted it to be improved and go through reconciliation. When Matthews pointed out that a govt. program like HCR can't go through reconciliation, after a little back and forth, Dean said, paraphrased, "Then we can get a bill two years from now" as if we would pick up progressives in Congress in '10. He sounded ridiculous.

10. Yeah, that's how I interpreted that exchange, too.
I sympathize with his desires for a stronger bill, but to be honest, his arguments are water thin... or at least unrealistic.

11. I agree...
and what did Matthews call Dean's nonsensical arguments-"platitudes" or "grandstanding"? Something like that.

12. He said he was being a demagogue.
Which may have been a bit harsh, but to be honest, he's beating a fairly weak drum. Dean has not been in office for a long time, and has no idea what "defeating this bill" will mean. It would mean the end of health care reform in our lifetime. Corporations win. The status quo is kept in place. No good for anyone.

13. Oh, ok.
Thanks. Yeah, it may have been a bit harsh but it's also true that he's being pretty irrational about it. If it is really so great for insurance companies, why are the Repubs. still against it and why are there no ads saying people should call and support this version of the bill?

5. She did come off as less unhinged though...

That's something, I guess.
