Im making my GOP primary prediction NOW |
|
barring any new entries into the game that haven't already been tossed around, Im going to predict that Huckabee will emerge as the GOP front runner.
He is affable and seemingly polished. He is a minister so he never needs to bring up religion to get the far right. When he talks, he never mentions religion.(see above) He is a social and economic conservative. He is southern.
Mittens is to creepy. Trump is to brash to survive a campaign, Palin is damaged goods, Rubio is to new, Jindal is to brown for the GOP, McCain has fail on his face, and Bachman is the mayor of crazytown(which really only appeals to 50% of their base).

5. But he has ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in running |
|
so he says. I'd say he seems an honorable fellow - if a giant douche canoe - and will keep to his word, but I used to say that about certain 'pubs in the in the 90s and have been proven wrong time and time and time again.

But from what I've seen of the porcine media favorite, I'm not sure how you could think he seems honorable.

I've long since outgrown my naive youth in which I could disagree mightily with certain folks on the right but still imagine them as acting out of heartfelt beliefs. (and I shudder to admit this now) but the way John McCain was portrayed in the media BEFORE 2000. Mid-80s Bob Dole springs to mind. Hell, I was naive. I admit it. But once there was a time when I could disagree with certain public figures on the right on the basis of real policy, not battle against a pernicious and loathsome ideology.
Does this make any sense? There was a time when national politics wasn't so vicious. I mean sometime after the Mcarthy hearings.

I was thinking Cantor since he would theoretically help the repubs in two swing states -- Virginia and Florida. And being Jewish he'd provide some blowback against Huck's fundamentalism. But Cantor would have to give up his leadership spot to make a run for VP, while McDonnell is only allowed one term as gov.

I think they are saving him for 2016. If he ran this time and lost, it wouldn't help them come 2016 to put him out there again! No, I think they will let the "clowns" play this time, and take their loss and save Christie, Rubio, and maybe even Jeb Bush for 2016!

6. Huckabee if he runs, otherwise Romney, |
|
But it will not be easy for him, just like it was hard for McCain.
I fear Huckabee because he is two faced. In front of a regular audience, he looks like a reasonable fellow, ready to talk and do reasonable things. In front of his base, he is a radical RWer.

16. Huckabee lost credibility by claiming Obama born and raised in Kenya |
|
Then he had to backtrack and have his reps claim he misspoke several weeks ago. He still has a show on Fox. Surely after that and other gaffes he won't run. He shares a trait with the other Repub birthers in that he loves the adoration of the right wingers and the media attention and money.

18. Problem: ministers should be barred from running for public office |
|
PERIOD. Until or unless Huckster is willing to give up his 'ministerial duties' completely and disassociate himself with this line of work, he should not be a politician. This ought to be a LAW in this country. He can be a minister OR a politician - NOT both.
It's called 'separation of church and state'. Maybe you've heard of it.

22. As an agnostic, I disagree with you. |
|
One aspect of separation of church and state is that government may not favor religion over nonreligion, and may not favor nonreligion over religion. Barring ministers from running for office would violate that rule (not to mention the more specific "no religious test" provision of the Constitution).
People take their religion in different directions. I wouldn't have a problem voting for a candidate like .

He says Obama was born in Kenya, and released a convicted rapist in AR just because the victim was Clinton's cousin. The rapist he released went on to rape someone else.
