If and when a health care reform bill passes, let's strip Lieberman from
any committee chairmanship. Why help the guy promote himself to his constituents in 2012?

What has he done to help Democrats since we took the White House?

To paraphrase Dear Abby: are we better off without him or with him?

1. Hell I say let's strip him now
As you so astutely asked, what has he done to help Democrats? Answer, nothing.

2. That would be great to see, but it will never happen. The "poor Joe" and "evil Dean" memes today
have pretty much solidified which side the leadership feels is important to defend.

5. Why? So we can say that we have 60 votes in a Democratic caucus?
Except, is he part of the caucus? Bernie Sanders is, and he gets crap all over him.

I thought that "reading the amendment" was a filibuster act. At least, this is what they used to do in the 60s to prevent the passage of the Civil Rights law. Why were there not enough votes to stop it?

10. It will have to wait until next Congress session
You can't change the rules in the middle of the game, and so even if Harry Reid wanted to strip him of his chairmanship, it can't be done until the next congressional session.

Same thing with changing the filibuster rules. That can't be done in the middle of the game either.

These are the Senate Rules that currently govern the Senate. Yes, those rules can be changed, but only at certain times.

13. Why not?
How were the Repubs planning to exercise the "nuclear option" a few years back?

I understand that as things sit we cannot strip him out. By the time we can, hopefully he will be former senator Lieberman. But why can we not change senate rules, and then do it?
