"I'll wait and see what happens" is not Activism!
Look, what we want, or so we say often enough,
is exactly to increase taxes on the Rich, cut Defense,
and to insure that Medicare and SS are here to stay.

We also, in the majority,
support larger investments in
Education,
Health Research,
Green energy,
and Infrastructure spending....

Sure, there is a lot more that we want, but surely those are some
of those.....

And so, many of us have demanded that the President uses his Bully Pulpit
to push these things, and some of us have said this often as the answer
to others who say that the President is only one branch of the government,
and so he can't just become a dictator. Folks then say....but he could use his
bully pulpit!

So when I read the skeptical responses on this particular speech, such as....
"It's just a speech and perdy words",
or
"I'm going to wait and see what he actually does",
"he talks a good game, but till I see it done....."
or "let's see some actions and then I'll decide what's what",
or, "did he mean it, or does he just want to get re-elected?".......
than my question becomes, if the grand plan is to wait until congress passes all of the things
that Obama outlined as his vision in fixing the deficit without hurting our economy, before
your faith in this President is restored, what exactly are you going to do in the meantime?

Folks, many of us spend beaucoup time on the Internet....
and at this time, as the election season kicks off,
I'm curious to know what these various responses mean
in terms of actions some are planning or not planning
to participate in, in order make congress pass those things as outlined today.

You see, the Alternative plan is quite simple and stark...
IT IS PAUL RYAN'S NIGHTMARE PLAN....

So why would anyone want to simply "wait to see"?
What kind of activism is that?

I know folks can get quite passionate when it comes to this President and what he proposes or might propose, certainly...
as we saw in the days (since Sunday) in the lead up to this speech.
We saw folks saying they wouldn't vote, they wouldn't work, they wouldn't donate,
they would just check out if this President touched Medicare Benefits or Social Security.

Meanwhile, many here countered and say...why don't we wait till Wednesday to find out
instead of getting all mad and cynical before the President had spoken.

SO then Wednesday came, and the President spoke.

Now it appears that some of those who reacted beforehand in a very passionate manner,
now simply want to passively wait and see.

Meanwhile, those who wanted to wait and see the facts first,
are now ready or preparing to get all activist on us,
so that we can get what we heard in the speech done.

So how can anyone NOW be thinking so passively about
supporting issues that they said they so cared about yesterday,
when all along one of the points made by same has been that we should be caring more about the issues, than about anyone politician? How can one say they want to see the President fight,
but they themselves are not willing to do just that?

If one is not willing to follow on the issues as laid out by the President; but yet before the speech, those same issues were the straw that would break the camel's back if the President didn't support those things.....
Then I'm not able to reconcile those who now call on Pres. Obama to follow up on his "talk"...
and only if he does, will they then be willing to follow his lead by they themselves doing something other than talking. Please, help me out on this!

3. Speak to it! As we hear so frequently about this president, "talk is cheap"...
and the PL is proof of that. All talk, no action. You can't demand something of others that you aren't willing to go to the wall for yourself. I agree with your sentiment 1000%.

11. We need to stand with the idea of raising taxes on the rich.......
because with a Republican House, what we do matters!

4. To me it's sort of like counting coup.
Those who are brave forge ahead and make a difference. They risk wounds and set backs and possible failure, but they don't stop trying. They count coup.

The wait and sees sit back and judge and then talk about how it wasn't done right. It's low risk and requires no courage of conviction. They have no coup to count.

13. Exactly!
Once more I ask, When did "Yes WE Can become Yes HE Can and Why Hasn't He?"

We need to be putting the WE back into our thinking and actions.

It's still Yes WE Can.

It has to be.

14. The choice is stark.......
and either we are passionate about getting what we want to have,
or we can be passionate about defeating Obama and giving the
Republicans what they want. It is our individual choice,
but folks cannot rationalize working hard to beat Obama,
and also say they care about the issues. The two don't reconcile. period.

15. We're staying busy.
And it's good. One thing after another, then Wisconsin happened. And Ohio and Michigan and Maine and Indiana. Rallies and gatherings, town halls, visits to congressman's office, letters to editors... Angela Davis will be here in a few days, followed by John Ashcroft ten days later. My living room is piled with sign-makings. I'm hoping that things will calm down enough after Ashcroft that I'll be able to clear away the sign supplies long enough to finally take down the Christmas tree. . .

19. It boils down to trust
Those upset with Obama's past actions do not trust his words now. This is because he has gone back on his word in the past.

Hope that clears it up for you.
