3. And for the folks that do care about the speech here's some links |
|
Video of the FULL speech: Pres Obama lays out plan for balanced approach to achieve $4 trillion in deficit reduction http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x573091and from the White House FACT SHEET: The President's Framework for Shared Prosperity and Shared Fiscal Responsibility http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/04/13/fact-sheet-presidents-framework-shared-prosperity-and-shared-fiscal-respp.s. I too am thrilled that the GOP is pissed off and also happy that they are on the wrong side of the American people :)

5. It is rather irrelevant |
|
Neither side is going to get 75% of what they want. It's just posturing for next year's election.

6. It is rather relevant...... |

unless you don't care if Paul Ryan's plan is enacted..... because I do not believe that Republicans are anything but serious on this.
If you actually care about the issues, and are as passionate about those as you may be of your displeasure of Pres. Obama's 2.4 years, than it is all relevant.

8. Ryan might get most of his plan through the House |
|
but he won't get it through the Senate, and Obama won't sign it, even if he does. Similarly, what the President laid out today has no chance in the House.
We will get nothing but negotiated stalemates until the 2013 Congress sits down, and the composition of that body will determine what happens. This is all just pre-election posturing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the President is trying to beat the Repukes at their blame game rather than simply capitulate (like he did at the end of 2010) but that's all it is at this point, a game.

It was inspiring, historical, and bespoke of progressive values. Obama told the truth in that speech, the truth about the way our system is biased for the rich and powerful, honesty which we almost never hear from our political leaders on the public stage. I'm all in!

Will the Whitehouse respond to Republican leader calling his speech (among other things) dramatically inaccurate? House Budget chairman Paul Ryan just released the following statement in response to President Obama's speech on deficit reduction:
“When the President reached out to ask us to attend his speech, we were expecting an olive branch. Instead, his speech was excessively partisan, dramatically inaccurate, and hopelessly inadequate to address our fiscal crisis.
