Good news, literate people: Jerome Corsi's latest book has gone to press. And Matt Drudge has exclusive details! And by "details" I mean "incredibly, comically vague assertions."

Corsi is best known, still, for his famous "Swift Boat" book, which was full of easily debunked lies about John Kerry, but which was not easily debunked until all the lies had been properly reported and disseminated. Since that book he's gone "full fruitcake," repeating every single right-wing conspiracy theory that comes down the pike, from the NAFTA superhighway to the truly weird "abiotic oil" theory, which says petroleum doesn't come from biological material.

Corsi already wrote his silly Obama book, in time for the 2008 elections, but he forgot to make that book about how Obama was secretly born in Kenya, because that particular conspiracy theory had just been invented at the time. So now he's giving it another go, with "Where's the Birth Certificate."

The Kerry campaign gave them 26 pages exposing lies in the book - and Kerry's entire record was on his web site from April 2004 on. The biggest lie was one not yet really understood by most people. It was never their account vs Kerry's account. It was their account versus the official Navy record. (Though much more complicated, this was just like the right and the birther lies - the official record was given no credibility over politically motivated, unchallenged statements. Yet, like Obama's birth certificate and the republican governor of Hawaii saying it was real, Kerry's records, the Navy's validation that his medals were properly awarded and Republican Senator Warner, who had been secretary of the Navy validating that Kerry was a genuine war hero, the official records aren't enough - because to the right, Obama can't be a real native born American and liberal Democrat Kerry can't be a genuine war hero.

We are in a time and place where roughly 25% of the country creates its own reality and NO amount of proof or logic can reach them.

6. If only Jerry Falwell was here to sell VHS tapes about it

I recently found a copy of Jerry's "The Clinton Chronicles" in a box at a thrift store. For 25 cents, I was treated to the 90s version of birther lunacy, as the tape was loaded with nutty conspiracies about Bill and Hillary killing their political enemies in order to cover up cocaine habits. The good reverend was a master at bearing false witness.

The crap we're seeing today is just an updated and, thanks to FOX, mainstreamed version of the 90s smear machine.
