I think a good rebuttal to the birthers would be "If you don't think the birth certificate is legitimate even with embossed seal and shouldn't be recognized by every state of the union, then your birth certificate would not be recognized either".

it springs only from a desire for attention, so no evidence will ever end the noise; rebuttal simply doesn't work in such cases; the only thing that works is walking away and calling attention to real issues instead

once upon i time the media had standards and strove to avoid telling even innocent errors on air.
now they seek out not just errors, but known falsehoods.
