Get Thee To The Pulpit
Edited on Wed Apr-20-11 10:20 PM by WiffenPoof
The Republican Party has overplayed its hand. The American people to include many in his own party have rejected the Ryan plan.

The President has a golden opportunity to wrestle the message away from the Right and ride their miscalculation right into a second term.

People are beginning to understand what the Republicans are up to. They have revealed their true intention of dismantling the safety nets that have been in place since the New Deal. Even members of the Tea Party are overwhelmingly against much of what Ryan has put forward. Many who voted for the Ryan Plan are probably starting to regret their decision.

Here is an opportunity for the President to divide the Republicans from their base. The very essence of what it is to be American is under attack. Our sense of fair play and human compassion is being questioned and the answer is loud and clear...The people do not want to solve our financial issues on the backs of the poor and elderly. Even the most strident Right Winger is starting to question their own leadership. Now is the time and this is the place.

The President needs to have a frank and open discussion with the American people about entitlements and safety nets. He needs to define once again what it means to stand on principle for the benefit of all of us.

Yes, I know that we are hearing sound bites from his tour where he states that the Ryan plan is not "particularly courageous." Particularly courageous??? Are you kidding me? The Ryan Plan is downright cowardice. Having the occasional sound-bite from a town hall meeting is not enough. The President needs to speak directly to the American People. We are at a cross roads in our country's history. President Obama should be directing traffic towards a progressive future.

The American People are ready for this message. Now, while BOTH sides agree that tampering with our nation's safety nets is the wrong solution, President Obama should be taking the lead.

Get thee to the pulpit.

1. Right on.
I especially liked this:

Our sense of fair play and human compassion is being questioned.

Fairness and compassion. Never let the bad news fool you into underestimating the supply of these traits in the hearts of ordinary Americans.

2. Absolutely...
This is why I feel that in the end, these traits will win out.

4. That's what his Facebook Town Hall was about.......
in this day and age, the Bully pulpit may, or may not be shown on Television;
it all depends on how the Media big wigs feel on any particular day....

He's also done "open mike" which spread the message about Ryan and Ryan's track
record quite well.

As for Calling out Ryan, personally, I like the subtle much better than the "in-your-face"
approach from our President. He's already got the media ready to jump up his ass about
everything he says or does. All he needs is for them to start dogging him out and distracting
him from his message.

What I suggest is that we also amplify the bully pulpit....by making sure that everyone around
you knows what Ryan's plan is all about. Word of mouth actually works well, when we are all staying on the same message. How about it? Are you game to do all that you can?
