It's kind of what the Repubs have been doing to Obama & the Dems since the beginning. There are different strategies against the press. One of them is to bring the ball up the middle. You want to keep the ball in play until you have a good shot, but don't make bad passes. The opposing team is hoping the press will rattle you, forcing you into a turnover before you get a chance to score. Let's hope Obama plays this right.

Let's face it, no decent candidate wanted to run in 1996 either. How else do you explain such a dull candidate as Bob Dole.

The GOP powers were grooming one of the Bush Brothers to run in 2000. 1996 was too early for them. My guess is they are grooming someone else to be the big guy - probably Walker, Kasich, Christie or Scott. If one of those guys manages to win their 2nd term they will be running for president in 2016.
