On blaming President Obama for the health care bill
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 11:02 PM by ProSense
Go right ahead. From September:

Obama On Health Care Bill: 'I Own

The President, in an interview with Steve Kroft that will be broadcast on 60 Minutes at 7 p.m. tonight, says of health reform: "I'm the one who's going to be held responsible. So I have every incentive to get this right."

In excerpts released by CBS, Obama also says:

I have no interest in having a bill get passed that fails. That doesn't work. I intend to be president for a while, and once this bill passes, I own it.

Here's the video:

Congress has a responsiblity, but in the end, the President is going to get most of the blame or credit for the bill that he signs.

13. How can it be for better?
Olbermann just summed it all up.

All we are getting is a mandate for our money to go into the meat grinder that is the HCR bill.

It is a health care bill that is not about Health, not about Care and only about how the leeches can continue to BILL us.

And penalties - a full one hundred and sixty sixy billion of them on the working and middle class.

And more unemployment - small companies taht would love to hire someone on, but cannot afford it as this bill will make it too expensive.

7. Is it possible that he expected something from Lieberman that he didn't get?

9. I doubt it.
There was a time when no one expected the Senate bill to include a public option.

10. I remember his interview, but he failed miserably...
He was not able to walk his talk, we can blame washington politics, but he surely lacked any spine

14. Isn't this why the major provisions don't kick in until 2013?
He owns it, but he won't have to be held accountable?

16. Of course
He always meant to be a one term president. I knew it! Actually I would not be suprised if he pulls a Palin and resigns next year or early in 2011.

the 2012 elections.

22. Not true.
The emergency measures kick in immediately, and other reforms will before that date. Still, overall effective date isn't set in stone.

What's ironic is that calls to kill the bill would push any effective date back by many months, possibly years.

25. There's very little spending
between now and 2013 under the projections. And the major provisions, including the mandate, don't start until 2013. Government spending doesn't exceed more than a few billion before 2013. But in 2013, annual Federal spending jumps to the $130 billion range as the mandate and subsidies kick in. It's easy to see why he might not want the mandates to start til 2013.

23. That's why the 2013 starting date
is so laughable. That's a very clever move.

hasn't passed yet.....

I'm hoping he has a plan up his sleeve to somehow get a public option in there.
