...when it comes to handling personal controversies and the timing of that handling. Many people were upset when his speech on the Wright issue was announced and they gave the same reasons that they are giving for complaining about the release of his birth certificate. They were proven dead wrong then and they are dead wrong now.

His reason for doing this now was sound. The birther thing was given a whole new "birth" in the news cycle because of the carnival barker millionaire running his mouth about it nonstop. This is during a time when the President wants a national dialog on the budget issue. By putting the certificate out there now, the issue is going to tire out in the media. Of course it won't shut the birthers up. But it does take away any measure of credibility they were pretending to have ever had. I guarantee that once the media digests the release of the long form birth certificate, they will now move on. The birthers won't, but the media will, and that was the point.

So before you question the President on this, don't forget about past personal controversies and how he managed to single handedly come out on top, every single time. He has a track record that should be more than enough to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to handling personal attack memes such as this. For those criticizing this move, he doesn't need your advice. He handles these sorts of things just fine on his own and his history of doing so backs up that assertion.

2. YEP,, you can count on it.. if he had continued to ignore it
the same people would be barking about him not dealing with it up front and stopping it from morphing.

His addressing it, will bring the hounds out .

There are people who can do nothing but question every move the President makes.

4. Yeah, kicking Wright under the bus was a political masterstroke
Especially after he had sat in the guy's church for 20 years without complaint and considered him a friend and mentor to the entire family.

6. Wright earned every wheel of that bus driving right over his face.

He acted like a complete, self absorbed asshole, went out to the media and spewed off a bunch more conspiracy shit about the government giving black people aids or whatever it was. He is the one that made it worse. He is the one that tried to turn it into a self whoring opportunity. Fuck Wright. Obama was more than justified in breaking ties.

10. Wright threw himself under the bus. He was a total loose cannon for a few weeks there.

11. Wright willingly threw himself under that bus.
He made that choice for the President, not the other way around.

15. So are you saying every multi generational Catholic family..
...should have sat by and supported their local priestly molester without question because....well geez, they'd been going to church for 50 years?

What an asinine argument.

5. Regarding his speech on the Wright issue:
I found it to be one of the best speeches on the subject of race ever given by anyone.

13. To be fair, Plouffe admitted in "The Audacity to Win"
that they fucked up with Wright pretty royally. He's always said that if he could have done one thing different it would have been to get out in front of that time bomb at the beginning.

for doing just about the same (except with a different bully pulpit) and labeled as a poster child for not fighting back, and praise Obama in the same sentence. JMHO.
