James Carville: Republicans, meet your new front-runner

(CNN) -- Today's big winner is Donald Trump. His news conference this morning was an utterly brilliant performance in which he claimed, with considerable justification, that he alone was able to get the president of the United States to accomplish what no one else could, not the Clintons, not the press, not anybody: the release of President Obama's "long form" birth certificate.

Trump then parlayed this remarkable feat into something even bigger, taking the Saudis and the Chinese to task to increase oil production and to fairly value their currency, respectively.

There is no question that today's events gave Trump a huge political opening. It is also agreed by all, including myself, that despite his exceptional brilliance on this morning of April 27, he would be a completely disastrous nominee for the GOP.

snip...

So, in the words of Jack Cafferty, "Here's my question to you:" What motivated the White House to become a part of the spectacle at this stage in the game? Was the posting of the birth certificate an intentional move to bolster the political standing of Donald Trump? This is one Democrat that hopes it was, as it would demonstrate a political move of great sophistication and overall strategic brilliance.

2. I see it the other way....
By releasing the long form birth certificate it makes Trump look childish and a complete and utter fool and Obama-----> the ONLY ADULT IN THE ROOM! I think Trumps numbers will not fall....a brilliant move by the WH.....

Now that he's been proven what he is, anyone who support him is just a plain fucking racist pig.

6. wow - good thought provoking article by James. I don't think
even the WH would have known that Trump would get all the air time before the prez. Obama's got
to come up with some strategy on oil prices. Because T-Rump won't shut up about
this and that's what most Americans care about right now - gas prices.

would T-Rump make the best opponent? mixed feelings. he's got tons and tons of
arrogant baggage - but he seems like an excellent debater.

Carville is hilariously good at times, but lets be honest about trusting his intentions. They are not to be trusted.

11. Trump is the Trojan Horse
Clearing the field and protecting the other GOP bozo's from taking fire from Media. Every time he is asked any question, he adds "if I declare to run". He is simply the attack dog for GOP and will not form an exploratory committee.

14. Trump is a joke in poor taste
He makes a mockery of the GOP merely by being in the conversation. If I was a conspiracy theorist on the other side, I would suspect his entire "campaign" to be a stunt engineered with Obama to help both of their careers.

19. Between Trump, Palin, Bachman, et. al....
The Republicans don't seem to be lacking attack dogs... what they seem to lack is a real, genuine candidate who isn't bat-shit crazy and has an actual original thought in their head.

But, carry on repubs.. carry on.

24. Did you notice Palin is completely off the Radar
since the emergence of Trump? That is what I am talking
about. NO ONE is currently attacking the president except Trump. And Trump will drop out so every one who is really running will escape all MSM scrutiny.

Oh, and not just once, but *twice*:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6556470/

"It is the second time Trump casinos filed for bankruptcy court protection. In 1992, Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Castle and Trump Plaza ended up in Chapter 11, burdened by more than $1 billion in debt and hurt by the 1990-91 recession."

Why? Because Carville still can't stand that Obama handed him his ass.

Is Carville ever right anymore? Has he ever been right in the last 20 years?

22. Anyone who calls Trump's embarrassing performance brilliant needs to
Edited on Thu Apr-28-11 05:45 PM by Phx_Dem
to have their head examined. "I'm so proud of myself, I'm honored. I'm proud and honored. I'm so honored and very proud. Proud and honored about myself."

What kind of moron talks like that No. 1, and No. 2 he's so proud and honored to have been 100% wrong. Birtherism was the only thing on his agenda and Obama pulled the rug out from under him the minute his plane landed in New Hampshire!

Trump is a shallow, narcistic, imbecile. And for CNN to call someone like that brilliant, makes them even worse.

Not to even mention that dumbfuck is preaching to the choir -- those who would never vote for Obama anyway -- and completely alienating the rest of the GOP and the country. How utterly brilliant!!!
