Oklahoma GOP Lawmaker Sally Kern: ‘Blacks’ Don’t Work As Hard As White People
Think Progress: Oklahoma GOP Lawmaker Sally Kern: ‘Blacks’ Don’t Work As Hard As White People

The Republican-controlled Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a proposed constitutional amendment yesterday that would eliminate Affirmative Action in state government. The offical GOP reasoning for the change is that while “discrimination exists,” “I don’t think Affirmative Action has been as successful as we like to believe,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. T.W. Shannon (R), explained. But perpetual extremist Rep. Sally Kern (R) offered her argument for ending the system that helps minorities advance: “blacks” simply don’t work as hard as whites:

Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said minorities earn less than white people because they don’t work as hard and have less initiative.

“We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.

Kern said women earn less than men because “they tend to spend more time at home with their families.”

4. White people are not the only racists in Amurka. The "real"
racists use white racists as a tool.

3. Well,
I'm sure there are a lot of wonderful, and even progressive, people in Oklahoma just not enough of them to prevent Inhofe from losing his seat.

Still, this isn't about OK, it's about this racist GOP asshole.

if you can't take criticism of precious Sally Kern for the bigoted things she said, hide the thread.

7. "..while discrinination exists.." -- so eliminating Affirmative Action reduces discrimination??
If they are admitting discrimination exists then wouldnt eliminating affirm action allow discrimination to take place even more openly and worsen the problem?

It's like saying lets remove seat belts and airbags from cars because people end up dying from car accidents anyway each year. Sure it saves a few dollars but doesnt that make the problem worse?

8. She is missing something - black people built the southern plantations
while lazy white owners stood around watching. My sister moved into one of her bi-polar moment dreams - a mansion in a southern state. In the things laying around she found pictures of black workers as they built the house in 1908. She was more proud of that than the story of the good old boy who was the owner. She donated the picture to a university in her area.

Human beings - all of us are human beings. Some how these bigots miss that point.

9. There was a time when racists spoke in coded language and the high profile racists still do but the
vicious, cruel and brutal racist language of the past is re-emerging.

15. Sally Kern tells an obviously ridiculous, racist lie here
"I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.”

I want names, Sally. Name one student who said such a ridiculous thing to you. You can't, because anyone with a brain knows that that came out of your racist fantasies.
