Glengarry Glen Ross Republicans.
Sent out with talking points, training, and confidence.

Can't close the deal when they meet the actual people at their town hall meetings.

In fact, they should Always Be Closing... In fact, these town hall meetings should be victory laps.

And yet, the leads, they don't seem to be that good, in that there's some skepticism, even resistance.

Are the talking points, the "leads" given from above, perhaps weak?

Or are the reps the ones who are weak, failing to sell what is an obvious Sure Thing?

Lots of doubt is being sowed in the soul of GOP reps this week. Maybe they shouldn't have put their savings into this pyramid scheme, which they don't even understand. It was built by Boehner under the direction of Norquist and Luntz, and they were told it was GOLD, Jerry, GOLD.

Not only was it a pyramid scheme, it was a scam built and sold without an real understanding of the legal foundations and real practicalities of American democracy.

In this case, I'm happy to let the market speak.

Third place, your fucking fired!

2. I think they're out there finding it's really a cold call,
when they actually believed that "the American people" had "spoken" and that all they had to do was show up with the forms to complete to take advantage of "this great opportunity".

But "the American People", or even the people who actually voted for a GOP candidate in 2010, didn't actually think they were choosing the flim-flam of the Ryan budget or the Norquist Paradigm when they cast those votes; they were sold on the sizzle of Jobs! (which in this case was just the GOP version of *Jazz Hands!*) while the guys they elected promptly got busy riding their established hobby horses of abortion, welfare, and immigrants.

Pity the poor recently-elected GOP congressman, or even the veteran, who has to go pour the New Coke into his/her constituents' throats and insist to them that they like it.

7. My 6 year old son asked for milk. He had a confused look when I said, "Milk is for closers!"
But I couldn't resist.

I love and hate that movie.

3. The cast of the show referred to the film as "Death of a F***ing Salesman";
the latest town halls are playing out like "Death of a F***ed up Ideology."

5. The combination of false bravado, desperation, and empty promises
is something that today's GOP does so well, you have to wonder if they aren't being scripted by David Mamet instead of Frank Luntz.
