what's plan B if we do all those things where does the progressive movement go from there just curious. I mean get the impression there are options that can make the future even better than Pres. Obama, so I'm happy to hear them? If plan B works I'm all for it, if there is a plan B.

And the terminally miserable and dissatisfied will have more to be unhappy about and can post away about how bad things are.

things in a regressive direction. There are many positive things happening out there and I'll appreciate the small victories and hopefully folks will work for more. There's still a shot of a better day if we work to improve the Democratic party, there is nothing but an endless abyss if we allow Republicans back to power and that's the most important thing to remember. I'm not happy with all the movements away from where we would like to be but pragmatic enough to always reach for that small bit of daylight at the end of the tunnel.

You don't seem to get it: we are the party of despair and angst. We are not happy unless we are miserable. If you seem to be happy, it will be my job to convince you that you are miserable.

Doncha just love DU?

12. There are other Democrats besides Obama.
If I recall we had two elections stolen by Bush which were won by other Democrats. One by was won by Al Gore, and the other by John Kerry. So it not as though Obama is the only Democrat who can win a presidential election.

14. I don't have a solution.
If I had the money, I would be moving somewhere else.

But if you hate what happened to HCR, just wait until you see what happens on Climate Change.

And, so far, there ain't no place on earth I can go to get away from the idiocy that's about the happen.

Fortunately, I'm already over 50 and figure I got 20 years left, maybe 25. That puts my exit date at around 2030 to 2035, before (hopefully) the worst of climate change really gets going.

But maybe not, given the perfidy of the Obama administration.

17. We stop putting our money into electing politicians.
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 09:42 AM by Jamastiene
Yes, I said it.

We stop putting our money into electing politicians.

Why?

The corporations are taking care of their funding for elections, in reality. Our money is wasted on them. They do not need or want our input. The system has stagnated that way for years now. We keep getting threats of "where are you going to go" or outright lies. Our money is useless to them anyhow.

Where should we put our money?

We should start putting our money into the issues we want advanced.

1 Pick three issues we want worked on.

2. Come to some absolute goals we want to achieve on each issue.

3. Blitz the newspapers, the internet, television commercials (especially television commercials and shows), billboards, and every other communication medium imaginable with issue specific messages that change the public's opinion of what progressives really believe.

Instead of only seeing Bible verses and ads showing abortion procedures, catch phrases demonizing the left, misrepresentations of what progressives really stand for, stereotyped images of progressives and other negatives thrown at us by conservative groups, people can start seeing a refreshing alternative to the conservative messages.

4. Use actual facts in our message delivery that people cannot refute. Use sources they trust to present the facts to them. They cannot argue if they trust the source. They cannot argue with facts.

5. Demonize the right like they demonize us. It's a low brow tactic, but it would turn the tide that seems to be against us. We are not really the minority in this country. We just don't get our message out there enough to really make people stop and think.

6. Practice this method on local electable positions with short terms (2 year terms).

7. Analyze the data to see what works best, and adjust our percentage of money spent on any medium of communication that proves more effective.

8. Keep advancing our most important issues instead of individual politicians until we see the polls indicate success (and using relentless ad campaigns will bring success) in bringing the American public firmly in our favor. Most importantly in this step, overshoot our goals. We know we need at least 60% in the Senate firmly in our favor on any issue. Overshoot to get our issues to a 70% or more favorable rating in at least 35 states. That would ensure our majority in the Senate.

9. THEN pick the most progressive candidate we can find who will stand up for us. Specifically, pick a candidate who has shown a steady pattern of standing up for us even when it is unpopular to do so.

10. At that point, use a percentage of our money to continue the ad campaign on the issues and a percentage of our money to get the politician elected.

In short, show the American people what we are really made of, target the use of our money to advance our 3 causes/issues and get more support for what we believe in, get more support than we actually need, then pick the right candidates who will actually stand up for us on those 3 issues (without waffling or caving or mutinying) and put those people into play in all parts of our government.
