Ben Nelson Statement: I Cannot Support Cloture |
|
Nelson Statement: I Cannot Support Cloture 10 MINUTES AGO In a statement, Sen. Ben Nelson repeated what he told a Nebraska radio station earlier today: Unless abortion language is changed in the health care bill, he will not vote for cloture but instead stand with a Republican filibuster. He praised some provisions of a proposed compromise, that create teen pregnancy programs and provide tax credits for adoption, but said the bill would effectively relax the Hyde amendment. http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/live/health-care/#308718

I think for Nelson, former insurance company CEO, it's anything to kill the bill. |
|
The governor of his state has also asked him to vote against the health care bill, as well.

which may actually be a better outcome. I think some in the Senator will filibuster the language he wants.

13. They already removed the anti-trust exemption in the House bill for Nelson. |
|
We don't have representatives of the people in Congress, we have bought and paid for representatives who represent the special interests--not the public interest. It really becomes apparent when legislation is being made in the Senate.

I wish they would just admit they won't support ANY reform because they are in the pocket of the insurance industry. Take a principled stand you incompetent fucks.

when you slowly keep adding vinegar to milk, eventually you will add enough vinegar to make it undrinkable.
by removing any semblance of reasonable cost reform, they have poured the entire bottle of vinegar in and tossed in the cap to boot.

35. And that will save lives how, exactly? |
|
#1) Health INSURANCE isn't health care. There is absolutely 0 EVIDENCE than a single person died from lack of health INSURANCE.
#2) This bill creates the ILLUSION of giving care to those with pre-existing conditions, but the protections are pretty much meaningless, as there are too many loopholes to allow them not to actually give the protection.
Now, let's break it down. Why do people not have insurance? Because they cannot AFFORD it. So the idea is to make insurance plans affordable and in some cases, completely subsidized. You do realize these cheaper plans have higher out of pocket costs and deductibles, right? Do you actually believe these people who can't afford insurance and are supposedly dying due to lack of insurance are suddenly going to be able to afford the out of pocket costs associated with the plans? This is where they come up with this idiotic number of 20K people per year dying from lack of health insurance, because these are people with "treatable" conditions. However, these conditions (diabetes, hypertension, etc..) require out of pocket costs for medication and doctor's visits and that isn't going to change.
It doesn't save lives becuase it doesn't properly regulate what passes for proper health care and doesn't give an alternative to people who are unable to afford the out of pocket costs associated with the affordable plans.
