Mike Boyle may challenge Heineman for governor
Mike Boyle confirmed Wednesday he may enter next year's gubernatorial race.

Boyle, the former Omaha mayor and current Douglas County commissioner, is being wooed by Democratic leaders to challenge Republican Gov. Dave Heineman.

"I am considering running for governor," Boyle acknowledged in a telephone call from Omaha.

"I have been talking to people, but no final decision has been made one way or the other."

Boyle is scheduled to meet in Lincoln on Thursday with Democratic activists who will urge him to enter the race.

The veteran Omaha politician's wife, Anne, is an elected member of the state's Public Service Commission and former chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party.

Boyle, 65, is serving his third term as an elected member of the Douglas County Board.
