Gutsy man
Ignoring the political risks if talk fails, the president just took off to Copenhagen, for the final stages of the U.N. climate conference.

Sending presidents across the ocean to spend capital and time on an undetermined outcome is unusual. Schedules for foreign trips and international leader gatherings are usually set in advance in excruciating detail. Agreements are almost always inked ahead of time, with all but the signatures filled in.

Not so for this trip.

Obama now is more vulnerable to being blamed for any failure. He could end the year with a glaring "incomplete" on yet another signature priority. He could make it even harder to pass hard-fought climate legislation precariously pending in Congress. He could be seen as weak if putting his prestige on the line fails to bring results — again.

"You go there to have conversation and sometimes awful things happen," said Stephen Hess, a senior fellow emeritus at the Brookings Institution who has been a consultant, adviser and speechwriter to presidents dating back to Dwight D. Eisenhower. "It depends how often it happens, how it's perceived by the press, the public and other nations, as well as the president's enemies."

Good luck, sir. Some of us are still fully behind you.

Which includes the Rolling Stone cover that a co-worker put up on my desk whenever it came out .... February of last year with the post it that reads "Clio, come to DC with and be my page!" (I had to explain to her that only Senators had pages and not Presidents so if he lost, it was because she jinxed him with her post it) That picture stayed where she put it until the election. and two Obama dolls and a WH easter egg.

.... and some Fiestaware that we all know Barack Obama invented lol

and, if you'll excuse me, I need to go pray to it now.

(I take that back Babs I AM the biggest cheerleader)

8. Pres Obama is a strong
person with a steady inner core. This is of the ultimate importance to us.

Some of us have noticed that he'd rather get things accomplished than worry about a 2nd term..that's why when I see posters saying "he's weak"..I just shake my head and put them on ignore bc really wtf do they know?

24. Rec'd but that "Some of us" comment is a load of horse shit
For the thinking challenged. Someone can support the President while not supporting a policy, choice, or action.

Make it sound like a bunch of your fellow Dems are Limbaugh Jr's.

Keep pushing.

26. You don't support him. You turned your back to him
before his first 100 days. It just got worse and worse from then. He's 11 months in office - Easily the most progressive president since LBJ - and fanatics all over the lunatic-blogosphere are calling to primary his ass. "Progressives" never really supported him and never will. They want him to fail, so they can say "we told you so" or some other pure-bullshit.

(Let me make it clear that by saying "you", i don't mean "you" personally).

29. Ok. I understand the you part.
I question a couple points.

"Easily the most progressive president since LBJ"
"They want him to fail"

Please consider being open to the idea that President Obama is not a "progressive." Also, maybe if you come across one of those people you think wants Obama to fail, just ask them outright? I think you may be surprised at the answer.

I am habitually an emotional person and it often gets the better of me. I really don't think I can grow out of it and I know it colors much of my life. I sense a lot of strong feelings in your comment and that is cool with me, but consider other possibilities.

We voted Obama into office. Yes, many will feel betrayed for justifiable and unjustifiable reasons, but I think we are going to have to come to grips with the idea that he places corporate interests at a high priority. None of your fellow progressives honestly want him to fail. There may be a few radical exceptions but I feel safe saying it. A lot of this anger we are seeing needs to be converted into action and there is much frustration pouring out right now. People say things in anger or stress that they do not always mean after calming down. There are ways for the President to win these people back and it is not going to be with soothing words anymore. And the costs of wars weigh so heavily on some people that they may never forgive him and I think we need to accept that.

Anyway, keep up the good fight as you see it, but be open to the possibility you may be wrong and try to acknowledge evidence that does not fit into your preconceived notions, I find this a challenge myself but am working on it. I think most of our fellow DU'ers have positive intentions even though we argue and it is hard to see sometimes. I know, unsolicited advice, but it is advice for me as well. I fail often, so not casting stones here.
