News and an observation from New Hampshire, neither good.

DURHAM, N.H. -- President Barack Obama's approval
rating continues to be low in New Hampshire, according
to a new WMUR Granite State Poll conducted by the
University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

Five hundred sixteen people were randomly selected
to participate in the survey -- 46 percent said they
approve of the job Obama is doing, 49 percent said
they disapprove and 6 percent were neutral.

...

Approval of Obama's handling of the economy remains
low, with 40 percent approving and 56 percent
disapproving.

New Hampshire residents are also pessimistic about
the direction the country is heading, with only 35
percent saying they think the country is headed in
the right direction.

These aren't the sort of numbers that get a Pres-
ident re-elected. New Hampshire voted for Democrats
(including Obama) in 2008, but they radically turned
away from the Democrats in 2010, electing both Re-
publicans running for Congress, the Republican Senate
Candidate, and turning our state Legislature and Senate
from Democratic majorities to veto-proof Republican
majorities. And the latest polling in the state also
has Romney beating Obama although it's still within
the margin of error. Now people here at DU have said
"but Romney can't be nominated by the religious nuts
running the Republican primary process".

Well, yesterday, I saw a car that still had its
"Ovide" oval sticker on it and right next to it
was a Romney 2012 sticker. Ovide LaMontaigne was
the darling of the Religious Reich here in NH
back in 2010; this pairing of stickers suggests
folks of that ilk will gladly hold their noses
and nominate Romney if it will bring them the
Presidency (and it will).

3. It's well underway.
Between the ALEC agenda (brought in lock, stock, and barrel)
and the truly loony things our local loons have thought up, it's
been an exciting legislative session with much more to come
next year.
