House Liberals demand no cuts to Medicare, Social Security in deficit deal
A group of House liberals is pressing President Obama to take all cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security off the table as the White House grapples with Republicans for a debt-limit deal.

Obama is reportedly eying significant entitlement reforms as a deficit-reduction strategy – an effort to entice Republicans to accept new revenue raisers as part of a package to hike the nation's $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

...

"First," the lawmakers wrote, "any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid should be taken off the table. The individuals depending on these three programs deserve well-conceived improvements, not deep, ideologically driven cuts with harmful consequences."

As a second condition, the lawmakers added, "revenue increases must be a meaningful part of any agreement."

"Tax breaks benefiting the very richest Americans should be eliminated as part of this deal," the lawmakers wrote. "The middle class has experienced enough pain during the last three years, Republicans are willing to inflict even more. We will not join them."

2. I don't get this. I was under the impression that Social Security and Medicare are "trusts"
The money is there (well, was until they probably spent it and now don't want to pay it back). It's not part of the budget. Isn't that right? None of this will solve our problem. These cuts make it worse, not better. The rich need to pay their fair share and stop asking us to do it all while they live high on the hog!

4. If I understand it right, and I may be way off
many successive Governments have been borrowing against these trusts. In effect turning them into future budget problems. With the money being spent they are being forced into looking at how to refund the money that they had earlier raided.

8. The robbers just take the loot and run. They don't care about the legalities.
Our entire country is run by organized crime (that calls itself business).

3. we've already taken our "cuts"
No COLA for two years and counting. Inflation going the the rooftops!

Proof here: http://inflationdata.com/Inflation/Consumer_Price_Index/HistoricalCPI.aspx

It is bad enough trying to live on next to nothing. Now will make it just about nothing.

How many will end up having to go to food banks, etc. being they have been cut more?

ENOUGH OF YOU ALREADY Mr. President!
