House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will return to the White House on Friday for a meeting with President Barack Obama, giving the president a chance to make his case directly to the California Democrat who could be an impediment to his goal of a sweeping defiict reduction deal that would tackle entitlements and taxes.
Ms. Pelosi, who attended a larger meeting Mr. Obama hosted at the White House Thursday with congressional leaders, will meet with the president Friday at 10 a.m., people familiar with the matter said.
Last week, Mr. Obama met with other congressional leaders – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.,Nev.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R.,Ky.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R.Ohio) on the budget negotiations.
House Democrats are likely to be among the toughest opponents of a budget deal curbing Social Security and Medicare spending.
