Jared Bernstein: The June Jobs Report--FAR Worse Than Expected
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 07:50 AM by flpoljunkie
But. will the Republicans agree to anything that might help the economy, and thus, Barack Obama's reelection? They have successfully sold the deficit as our overarching problem. Will this convince them to change their tune? I doubt it. Emphasis mine.
The June Jobs Report–FAR Worse Than Expected

The June jobs report reveal a much more serious job creation problem in this country than most policy makers realized. Over the past two months, job creation has essentially ground to a halt, with 25,000 jobs added in May and 18,000 in June. The unemployment rate, now 9.2%, is climbing.

Washington needs to quickly and aggressively shift from its long-term debt obsession to the much more immediate jobs problem.

To do otherwise at this point would be deeply irresponsible.

Much more to come throughout the day, including Chad Stone’s detailed analysis, at cbpp.org.

1. So then why is he supporting Medicaid and Medicare cuts?
He knows better than that.

2. We don't really know what he's supporting. He's meeting with Pelosi at 10AM today.
Look forward to Pelosi's remarks after their meeting.

7. Jared Bernstein is quoted in NYT today
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/08/us/politics/08fiscal.html?pagewanted=2&hpw

“The cuts on the table to Medicare and Medicaid are things the Democrats could live with,” said Jared Bernstein, a former chief economist to Mr. Biden who is now a senior fellow at the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities.

8. Those cuts are on the delivery side--to Medicaid and Medicare providers
This is not new.

Democrats would be likely to push for changes in Medicare to focus on providers rather than patients.

9. And that's ok?
You want doctors and hospitals to get less to provide medicaid and medicare services? So the services decline?

Meanwhile, CIGNA and other carriers are making record health insurance profits.

So it is ok for doctors and hospitals to get less but great that insurance companies get more. :puke:

4. FALSE. He has never said he supported cuts to SS/Medicare/Medicaid.
Where have you read he said this? The MSM who said this or the President.

3. From the time Republicans took office there hasn't been a jobs bill.
Not one---that's what the American people voted for and wanted.
