playing to not lose vs playing to win - where is the fight? |
|
I realize that just like in the past many, many decades Democrats will always have to fight to defend programs that help Americans, but the frame... the talking points etc etc have been for waaay too long on Republican terms and it seems always to be Democrats on defense instead of pushing progressive fiscal policies.
I also realize that there are political realities in getting these things passed, but even if President Obama must negotiate the way he does, surely he can go out with an impressive progressive plan and "concede" by some lesser marginal rates that at the end of the day, would be what he really wanted - you know really negotiate.
Here we are with the already had not been great jobs situation rapidly declining and a lot of that is state/city gov't jobs and yet no GOP style repeat til death talking point about how lack of revenues has caused and it will continue and that the GOP's plan to do this on the Federal level will further harm the economy.
There is a clear opportunity here and it goes beyond partisanship. It's reality and it's what's needed to be done.
We're fighting to get another a chance at another set of downs merely to get beyond our own 10 yard line instead of fighting to score on their end of the field.
