Dear President Obama, some advice
I know you like living at the White House. And you're actually hundreds of times better at the diplomacy-with-our-allies thing than your predecessor. Still, you're a Democrat, and Democrats need to be strong on Domestic Issues.

So here's some advice: If you don't want the job, that's okay. Seriously, there are millions of people in the US who don't want the job either. If you don't want the job; just don't run for it. You're a multi-millionaire. Sasha and Malia will live a very comfortable life even if you walk away.

You can live in Chicago or Hawaii comfortably.

Just give us time to find a replacement who DOES want the job.

PS--We don't hate you. It's just clear that you really don't want a job that involves a lot of negotiating with crazy people. That's okay. Just walk away. You have a precedent--George Washington walked away after 2 terms, as did many other of the early Founders.

1. He doesn't really have a choice about walking away after 2 terms
since that whole constitutional amendment thingy

2. He's already announced that he is seeking a second term (if that's what you're getting at)
I'd say that pretty much means he wants the job.

Only in your mind.

4. In this country, we offer advice to political professionals without
the need for their request of that advice. It is odd that any American would suggest that a citizen should not express opinions to an elected official unless asked. It seems servile to me.

15. They have many mere mortals appointed to posts that offer
information to them - mortals with education and experience.

So their resorting to this message board and others to find out what the ignorant advise is unlikely.

6. Hope you enjoy 4 years of a Republican President.
Democratic Presidents are not allowed to dismantle the social safety net. Not if they want a second term.

They're not even allowed to suggest it.

Obama had a chance to be a new FDR. Instead he chose, of his own volition, to be an LBJ--without the redeeming features. Or have you slept through the last three days?

8. OMG! He dismantled the social safety net????!!!
Edited on Sat Jul-09-11 04:26 PM by Lisa D
When did that happen???????

He suggested he's going to "dismantle the social safety net"? Need a a link to that, please. How did all this happen without CNN reporting on it??? The end is nigh!!!

And he can do all this unilaterally? Without a vote of congress? Wow, he's one powerful black man. No wonder people are calling for him to step down.

I'll have to call grandma and tell her not to expect her social security check next month.

10. Bush suggested privatization of SS in 2005 and lost the House and Senate in 2006
And now?

If he doesn't want the job, he should just walk. We won't think any less of him.

17. I'm in a swing state.
How many of the people here criticizing me for the opinion are?

My opinion is worth far more than a Californian's or a Texan's. Sorry. It's the nature of electoral politics.

LBJ was a patriot who stepped down for his party. Bobby Kennedy, barring his assassination, would have been elected.

Carter, whom I rarely criticize, was not a patriot.

Obama, who I more freely criticize--because he earned it, is not.
