Dear Mr. President, Why should EVERYBODY sacrifice now...
...when SOME of us have been sacrificing for decades because "our" government has allowed OTHERS to plunder this country mercilessly?

SHAME ON YOU and every Democrat who perpetuates this narrative.

1. I really wish I could find a good youtube clip...
..of the old comedy bit you'd see in tv shows and cartoons. The ones where people are dividing up money or other goods. Where the sneaky guy in charge goes "One for you, one for me.......two for you, one two for me.......three for you, one two three for me...."

That's pretty much how this country has been run for at least 3 decades now and we're finally paying the price. Our leaders are dividing up the money and we are the ones getting short changed and they are the one sneaking more into the wealthiest pockets. Only now it's a "We're all in this together" mentality. Ha!

3. Working class has lost jobs, taken lower wages and furlough days
So as far as I'm concerned they've already sacrificed. It's time for defense, the wealthy and corporations to sacrifice.

4. In a shit economy---EVERYONE always has to suffer. There is no other way to get out of a shit hole.
The problem here lies----on the extent of protective that is created through new legislation (which will never happen with this Congress or any other congress for that matter) to protect the lower consumer.

9. The better question is why do all but a very few have to sacrifice?
I don't see the rich taking any of the sacrifice that is demanded of the rest of us. Sure Obama will occasionally talk about making them pay their fair share, but he also talked about ending the Bush tax cuts and look what happened there.

12. Have you read
and signed Bernie Sanders' letter:

<...>

Mr. President, please listen to the overwhelming majority of the American people who believe that deficit reduction must be about shared sacrifice. The wealthiest Americans and the most profitable corporations in this country must pay their fair share. At least 50 percent of any deficit reduction package must come from revenue raised by ending tax breaks for the wealthy and eliminating tax loopholes that benefit large, profitable corporations and Wall Street financial institutions. A sensible deficit reduction package must also include significant cuts to unnecessary and wasteful Pentagon spending.

<...>

18. Used to work for a top 3 tech company...
Corporate said everybody needed to cut 10%. We did, others didn't.

So when it wasn't successful, they asked again, we cut again, other depts didn't.

So when it wasn't successful, they forced a 10% on everybody. So now we had shared sacrifice even though we sacrificed more than everyone, and other depts weren't held accountable.

This is all too familiar.

statement he's saying that the Republicans are trying to protect the wealthy, and they should sacrifice just like everyone else.

22. wtf with "shame on you"
for perpetuating a narrative".????

Show me a time in the history of this nation when those at the bottom haven't had to sacrifice in bad times.

More than that, show me a time in the history of the world where the people who have less are somehow spared any sacrifice or suffering during economic crisis.

Who do you think the Dem's and the President are? Magicians? If your point was that the "haves" MUST have to sacrifice and not be shielded from pain, I can understand that. But the concept that we will be spared any sacrifice is not realistic or possible.
