Congress refuses to do its job
Edited on Sun Jul-10-11 03:35 PM by whosinpower
Years ago, I recall a snappy line that another politician said.....

"It is the economy, stupid". It worked wonders then. The new line should be -

It is the Congress, stupid!

Now, America is facing reaching its debt limit for expenditures it ALREADY APPROVED. And they no longer want to pay. They refuse to do their job.

The issue here is not the debt ceiling. The issue here is that the GOP controlled Congress wish to politically damage President Obama for his 2012 run.

I do not understand why President Obama continues to give them cover for their betrayal to do their jobs. I do not understand why he opens up the possibility of the GOP entrenching a doomsday machine every time the debt ceiling is reached to further their ideology at the cost of democratic principles.

Someone stated that the President should invoke the 14th amendment. He does not have to. The 14th amendment is already in play - the GOP are violating it.

So, I am upset on two fronts. I am outraged that the GOP would manufacture a crisis. I am upset that President Obama would use that crisis to entrench a doomsday machine and erode social programs at great cost to democrat's and no foul of the GOP.

He is trying to bargain with irrational people - and there comes a point when you just have to accept you cannot rationalize with irrational people - you have to find a different coping mechanism.

I know what I would like him to say, but he probably won't. I would like him to say...."I offered you a Grand Bargain and you turned it down. That was a one time non negotiable offer. This is no longer on the table. Raise the debt ceiling - or face the consequences. I tried to negotiate in good faith with you, but you are unwilling to."

Maybe he will.....I sure hope so.
