In the midst of our country’s economic disaster, President Barack Obama has been on the golf course 14 weekends in a row and First Lady Michelle Obama took her daughters on an African safari.
I firmly believe that they have every right to provide themselves and their children with those luxuries. After all, they have worked hard to gain an education that allows them to be employed in areas that provide generous wages. However, at this point in time, the president has chosen to provide what should be his humble service to the American people.
While he is golfing and his wife and children are on safari, hundreds of thousands are working their second or third jobs just to feed and clothe their families. Our parents’ retirement accounts have dwindled away and their lifestyles have drastically changed due to mistakes made within our federal government.
Although it is within their right to do so, the level of disrespect this shows the American people is, in my opinion, beyond reproach.
The president could, at very least, wait until such time as he is no longer using our tax dollars by way of security, transportation, meals and so on to accommodate these luxuries.
That would be the respectful thing to do.
